New on AS: Savchenko and Szolkowy interview
« Thread Started on Oct 4, 2009, 10:43am »

We decided to make separate threads for the interviews taken at NHT:

Aljona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy:
“We like to feel the atmosphere of the arena before we go out to skate”

I would have missed it otherwise, so ta!! Did not read the whole Nebelhorn thread -- yet. (have been away a while)
Love the interview Nadin! What's with the spelling of Aljona the curious one asks?

I think I let Nadin answer that one, when she gets home ;)

Hey caprica8
ok, here goes:

I noticed that the media spells Aljona's name in different ways and when I came to do the interview did some research to find out how it should be spelt correctly. I found out that on their own site (pixeleis.de) and artonice.com it's with a j (Aljona) but on isu.org and general articles with an i (Aliona). I thought I'd go with the j version as that's how they write it themselves, but what could be worse than spelling your interviewees name wrong? So I thought it's best to double check and e-mailed Ingo Steuer who kindly replied straight away to put things right. Turns out Aljona herself prefers it when her name is spelt with a j, but actually in her passport it's without j or i, just Alona.
So there you go... ;)

Thank you for the lovely interview, Nadin! :-* It was an informative and interesting read!! I'm crazy about their music selections, and already really loved both programs. Well, I have been trying to like their clown costumes and make-up, though...xD I had no idea that Aljona decorates the outfits with stones. I could never do it!

Quote:
Robin: There’s one that I don’t like at all, but I’m not going to tell you which one it is.

Aljona: I don’t like that one either (laughs)

Well, hmm… there is actually one I don't like as well!!

And thanks for asking my question to them. I agree with Mr. Steuer that the pairs is the most difficult discipline. I can also imagine how difficult it is to find a partner as I know some of our Japanese girls (e.g. Narumi Takahashi, Yuko Kavaguti and Rena Inoue) had hard times with it. (oh, I've got to get used to spelling Aljona's name correctly as well as Yuko's name xD)

Btw it seems to me Robin is not very talkative ???

Thank you kiirakiira, I'm glad you enjoyed it :-*

Yes, Robin was fairly quiet throughout the interview. He did all the talking during the press conference though, so probably just thought he'd let Aljona have a go

Very nice interview, Nadin, thanks so much! I just adore this pair and hope they recover quickly from Bompard. Complicated name deal though, thanks for sorting it out for us.
