Hi guys! (girls )
While I'm here in Vancouver, I thought it would be nice to let you know what it's like being here.
First: Awesome!!!
Robert and I arrived last Wednesday evening in Vancouver, traveling from Amsterdam via Chicago to get here. My brother picked us up from the airport. Yup, my brother lives here . Well, he lives in Richmond, but that's almost the same as living in Vancouver. I was glad to see him again. He moved to live and work here in January 2009 and he visited us at home during Christmas and Newyear. Still it's weird have a brother living on the other side of the world. Anyway, that's the first reason we came over here. And second, ofcourse, because of the Olympics!! Only...when the ticket sales started in the Netherlands, we did not even know yet we were going to be here during the Olympics so we don't have tickets to a competition, yet . But I'm still trying to get one through the fan-to-fan sale on the vancouver2010 website.
We've done some sightseing and cityexploring already. The Olympics are everywhere. People walking around in their countries outfit, on every corner of the street there is an Olympic volunteer you can ask for whatever you need to know, the public transport is overloaded and in Downtown Vancouver people start to get ready for one big party!
On the other hand, having the Olympics in town is not haleluja all the time. A lot of roads are blocked because something is happening over there. A lot of must-sees in town are block because they used the building or venue for something Olympics related (mediacentre, work-craft check-in, or whatever). I talked with several people over here about the olympics. A volunteer was delighted about it, told us a lot about what is going on. He was rapped up in a suit that's made for minus 20. The temperature on the day I was talking about him was....plus 12!! Later I talked to a local guy. He was also proud of having the Olypics in Vancouver, but he also told me a lot of locals already had enought of the Olympics before it even started, mainly becasue of the traffic desaster Downtown (a lot of roads are blocked).
Anyway, we figured out where the Holland Heiniken House is and appears to be at the O-Zone in Richmond, just a 600m walk away from where we are staying! I can tell you, the HHH is THE place to be during the olympics if wanna have fun, to party, to watch competition live on big screens and so many more! Check out richmondozone.com to see whats going on over there! You bet Robert and I are going to be there this Friday to watch the Opening Ceremonie. Fireworks over there, fireworks at the O-Zone!!
Are there more AS-ers out there here in Vancouver?
