This weekend, the Belgian nationals were also held... (great time with Kevin @cup of Russia, they really should look at the grand prix dates before deciding when to hold it but well... ) Result of the great timing : no senior men so no title awarded this year.... In the junior men, Ruben Blommaert came in second after Jorik Hendrickx... More info : www.vksb.be/website%20KBKF%20wedstrijden/Belgisch%20Kampioenschap/2009/index.htm

Yeah its strange, we went to the SP, Ruben got a deduction for time violation, but we didnt spot he was done too late, so not really sure what happened there. He came in second. And he won the LP, but wasnt enough to make up. Will write some more about it later

Again Belgian nationals today, again Kevin is at a grand prix... seriously, you would think the sports committee would take more care considering Kevin is the greates skater we have in Belgium... Grrr...

i believe it is Kevin's choice to compete at nationals or not... if he chooses not to compete, then that is his choice....
he gives the chance to the other young skaters like Jorik (who won the title again this year) and Ruben.... they are now also competing in level senior...

When you've got to choose between competing in a grand prix or nationals, it's not too diffult a choice I think...
I doubt he would stay at home if he was able to make it. Sorry but no athlete is that giving when it comes to titles...

I think if the Belgian federation really wanted him there, they would schedule around his important Grand Prix's. I even vaguely recall, years ago, they actually required him to stay and appear, instead of going to his GP, but I don''t think the ISU allows that anymore. Assigned GP you can only cancel for injuries.. or sth. Anyway.. to be honest.. the organisation was not.. suberb. Or well, the organisation actually was okay, it was the location that was .. can I be blunt and say lousy? It was in a worn out icerink in an old factory, way glum and ugly from the outside... inside not really much better. There were holes in the ceiling even..... thank god they removed the birds that actually flew around during the test skate the week before. From experience I know Belgium has way better icerinks than that one. Positive note was that it had a little tribune, so the audience was acttually IN the rink, not in the caferatia... but this one didn't overlook it either People there were really nice btw, as as always all the organisation ppl, as well as all ppl we nowadays know well. Had a little (longer) talk with Ruben and Jorik (Jelle was injured) as well shorter ones with the others we knew, skating parents, Ira Vannut, Kaat van Daele, Silvie, etc... Was thinking about wether to write something about it, or not. I may do so still, but think for the MB, not site. Took pics too, and I taped the 3 programs from the men short (Manuel Koll, aside R&J). Anyone interested in those? - not sure about the quality. It's a shame I couldnt tape the LPs. But then again, now I could watch them with more focus and enjoy

Oh yes... please do be blunt !! The location was indeed lousy... it made it no fun to be there, you couldn't even get decent food in the cafetaria ! What was even more shamefull were the medals... the gold, silver and bronze medals were gorgeous... had a belgian ribbon (black, red, yellow) on them.. and on the back it said "Belgian Championships" with the category and the date and location... the medals that were given to the others were merely medals that can be representatives of any competition... as no where is it visible that it has something to do with skating... it doesn't even say "Belgian championships" on the back... and they don't have a national ribbon either... my daughter was NOT impressed, to be honest, she was quite disappointed and didn't even wanted to put this medals with her other ones !
Belgian nationals are always held at that time in november... so i don't think we will be seeing Kevin anytime soon, as the GP are also around that time every year...
Being in Liege was a last favor to the icerink, as it is closing down... there is a new one, not far from the current location, but that one is not finished yet.
next time we should meet up Mireille !!
