Anyway I read in the guestbook Tomas was in the audience at stardance today... Yes, really unexpected lovely surprise! He was just sitting in the audience watching and camera showed him some 3-4 times during the evening applauding the dancers. He was sitting there with the olympic javelin throw winner Barbora Spotakova. And here's a link to program that was shown yesterday at CT 4 Sport, talk with Tomas and Mrs Koprivova. They spoke about GPF and upcoming Euros, Worlds, and even Olympics www.ceskatelevize.cz/ivysilani/208471290750091-hoste-ct4-sport/

that's an awesome interview !! I love what they are saying, very smart, very confident and it puts me in a good mood wasn't bad either to see some footage from Zagreb (and whee for myself for understanding, though Tomas does talk fast! ) I can try posting a summary later, but if someone Czech feels like doing so, go ahead. Prolly takes less time and effort for you than for me

ok, summary is here GPF: They analyze both programs, both Mrs. Koprivova and Tomas say that in general they are content with the result (but not the actual programs). About SP Tomas says that the 1st fall is somehow understandable - it can ahppen during a jump, but the 2nd one during footwork he was frustrated with it because it also affected his PCs, such mistakes shouldn't happen to him any more. They're glad for the quad. Then there is a question how they compose the LP, Mrs Koprivova say: mathematically, we need to get points, unfortunatelly sometimes we must leave out some elements "for the audience" but we have to collect some points. Axels: Tomas says he can't really explain what happened at GPF, axel didn't use to belong among his favorite jumps, but lately it has become a jump that he can do whenever in the practice even at 7 o'clock in the morning. It was a crucial mistake he hopes he will not repeat it and waits for a competition with 2 clean programs. European skaters: Question about only 2 Euro guys in GPF and that Joubert withdrew, what does it mean for following competitions? Tomas says that there is not only Joubert but also other French skaters, Ponsero and Preabuert, they have good triples and also quads and they seem to be consistent this season. But they all have to prove Euro skating is still strong. Mao Asada: The reporter jokes about how Tomas felt about Mao executing 2 3axels in her LP. Tomas (also jokingly): I like Mao and wish her just the best, but her program almost made me cry - I was sitting just behind the boards and she jumped them right in front of me. Such a punch into my male ego New long program - how people react: Tomas says he has a feedback from audience - forum, website and talks with fans and is glad people like his LP, that it was understood the way they wanted. Lori Nichol: Tomas was about to fly to Canada and didn't even had music picked which is not relly usual because they have to compose the program and not kill time choosing music. So he says chose and cut some music he thought wasn't that overused but was famous, and music that he hadn't heard many times at rinks in last 2 seasons. Work with Lori was great, they understand each other. Europeans: Tom says he already skated in Helsinki and supposes that the atmosphere will be similar like last year in Sweden. He wants medal. Worlds and Olympics: Because Worlds are olympic qualification he wants also win Olympic spots for other Czech skaters. Also because of that he sees Worlds as a climax of the season.

Katis, Thank you for you summary. It was really helpful to me. I've checked that video but to me Czech was just a foreign language that I can't understand any words. I've just looked at Tomas's face. I like his personalities and his attitude about interviews and from this interview especially the part about Mao made me laugh. This is Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to you all and happy holidays. ;D

Merry Christmas everyone! I have scary memories of Christmas Carp when I lived in Prague. Last Christmas I wasn't going to buy one, but then ElectroWorld gave me a coupon for a free carp when I bought a laundry machine. First I had to watch them kill my carp with a hammer, then I had to carry the stinky fish home on the metro. I put it in my fridge for a day, then when I was going to cook it... I saw the muscles under its skin were still moving (note: the fish sellers already took the insides out, so it was definitely dead). I never thought a dead fish could be so scary. And yes the bones are dangerous as well. p.s. The other scary Czech tradition for foreigners is Easter, where kids knock on your door, ask for an egg, and pretend to whip you with their stick.

sport.idnes.cz/na-vanocich-miluji-cukrovi-priznava-konzumaci-kalorii-tomas-verner-11r-/sporty.asp?c=A081219_172108_sporty_kalwhen we started this interview about his preferences at christmas, Tomas's entire face lit up. "sugary things!" he smiled and spontaniously showed his weakness for sweets. "but the main thing is actually, that this year I will be at home" he added. Lat year Tomas accepted the offer to perform in christmas shows in Lithuania. "So we had christmas earlier and I thought it would be like this regularly, but this year the shows will be later, so I will be at home" The reigning european champion is very much looking forward to be together with his family. "Last year I flew to lithuania on teh 24th very early in the morning. It was a nice action, a row of exhibitions through Lithuania, where they really like figure skating and it was always sold out. There were really a lot of Olympic and world medallists, but anyway it was during christmas and I was very far away from my family." he looks back at the previous year. This year he will celebrate at home for 4 days. "Already on the 23rd I will arrive back home" Tomas looks forward. "but the 26th I will go away. I will enjoy the holidays at home...without skates, spins, jumps...and as I heard, I suppose without snow...but what can you do about that" and he raises his shoulders. "But on the other side, I like to for example play squash. Lately I have been doing that a lot with Jan Koukal and I have started to really like it" During christmas there is also no place for any no-traditional things. "At my place Christmas is very very traditional" confirms Tomas. "Carp, potato salad, fish soup, and many sugary things, who in our house dissapear very quickly. My brother Mira takes a lot and also our little sister Kacenka, who does gymnastics and really should avoid these things, but she doesn't do that at all. It's hard to tell how she keeps that slim figure." he smiles After the enquiry what Tomas likes the most from his mom's kitchen, we wouldn't be able to find out some recepy. "I don't even know what it's called really, my mom read the recept somewhere" says Tomas. "It some kind of yoghurt dough, white, small blocks and added to that just a little bit of chocolate - it's just fantastic" he gushes. "Of course I should not forget rolls with vanilla and ... (something else I dunno) On the other side I don't like these stuff like for example these pralines with rum. To the classical christmas at doesn't lose it's cosyness or visitors. "What a lot of people do badly during christmas according to me, is that christmas is shifting to be all about buying and receiving big expensive presents, which brings stress and all that. At my place the presents do not play such a big role. We are just happy that we can be together with the entire family, and the more we are the merrier. " says Tomas When Tomas is remembering some of his favorite presents he received when he was a kid, it would scare the peacefull pacifists among us. "I remember a christmas when I got with my brother these toyguns on batteries, they were giving terrible sound and we were running through the appartement chasing and shooting eachother." he smiles then afterwards he corners the reporter and adds: "I can also tell you, which present in my youth didn't make me happy and now they make me very happy. They are socks. When I was a small kid I didn't get why anyone would appreciate such a gift" "Now I also appreciate when I receieve some boardgame to play underneath the christmastree. I really like to play them." (he names some and I know them in Dutch but not in English ) His father is in charge of the carp. "The carp my dad kills" but for him it's a bit of a paradox. "he's a doctor so he should rather save lives but here it happens the other way around"

Ninadel, i am sorry for your bad expirience with fish (i never eat fish if it is not prepared in a way that there is no possibility for recognizing fish body part, dead fish with open eyes is so scary so i understand you), but traditions are lot of fun, you must admit. : ) In Serbia we have Lent-i am not sure this is the right word but in Serbian Ortodox Church that is a period of 40 days before Christmas and before Easter where Christians eats food that is prepared on oil or wather, than, we eat fish at Christmas Eve and at Christmas day we are going to Church on communion and after lent stops we eat Christmas breakfast normaly, and also we have Christmas lunch and Christmas dinner and we usuali eats fried pig.It is time where all families are together and for three days of Christmas people who doesnt work stays at home. Also, there is one more beautifle tradition on Christmas Eve, at the morning people are cutting Yule log (It is branch of Oak) and they bring it to their homes and at Christmas morning the youngest children in home are burrning it and while they doing that they are telling their good whishes for their home and family, than the homemaker (usualy grandmother or mum) congratulate them, wish them Marry Christmas and gives them revord (monny). And on Easter, there is traditions when everyone who comes to you at Easter brings you a colorful eggs ande everywhere you go you are giving eggs. So you pick one and your guest too, then you are knocking one egg of others from the both sides and wich egg doesnt crash-that egg (and person) is the winner. So you see, traditions brings a lot of fun. : ) But i agree that you should be careful with fish bones. : ) So there are much more Christmas and Easter traditions and they are also very interesting but i cant write such a long message, better to say a letter. : )

Well I'm not a fish person either (and especially carp one) - I just hate picking out the bones so I am mostly fan of a tuna in the can. ;D But I know that lot of people eats different things for the dinner on Christmas Eve here - like they replace carp for other kinds of fish or fry schnitzels (we do, carp is only eaten by mum and granddad). Lol, ninadel - the outside carp sellers are scary. My sister went to buy carp with mum this year and then she had to carry it all the way home. The bag has torn and the carp was sticking out, the blood dripping from it - ugh. She was not very happy as she's the biggest fish-hater in our family. And thanks Tomas for a nice Christmas message
