there has been a press conference so a few are appearing. Thought I'd make a new thread to make things easier. like this one for example: sport.idnes.cz/jaky-vyber-hudby-voli-krasobruslari-letos-je-hitem-tango-pex-/sporty.asp?c=A090126_000410_sporty_aldIt's kind of snarky It's about what music figure skaters pick. So first the journalist snarks about Gerboldt and how she is skating to Carmen and didn't really do a good job. but it's not only about music, it's also about choreography. It takes the skaters a long time to pick the right music and to get the most fitting costume. "and then sometimes people still do not get what a skater wants to portray on ice" says figure skater Tomas Verner. As an example he takes the LP of Belgian skater Kevin van der Perren, which was something confusing for him. "do you understand what that is supposed to mean? superman, spiderman and bond together? why did he have some S, a web and a 7 and is skating to safri duo?"
maybe because he wanted to stand out?then a little story from Tomas how Tango is very popular this season and how he picked the music yadayada. Plus them saying that a spanish theme is very popular this season too and on that he says: "an amateur version is pretty easy" says Tomas "but noone went so far as swiss skater Stephane Lambiel, who worked together with a proffessional Flamenco dancer. The rest is just waving their hands thinking that it is appealing."then a part about Anette Dytrt, and that she is skating to swan lake and that it suits her. but she also says she would never skate to for example the music Shizuka skated to at olympics, you just don't do that. and then.... the most agonizing this year is Brian Joubert. He changed his music 3 weeks before euros. He threw away his last of the mohicans program and changed it for a program to a mix of the music from the Matrix and requiem for a dream. "this program finally fits me" Brian says, and with that he upsets Tomas Verner. From Tomas's program Brian copied a huge chunk of music and one footwork sequence. "that he has the nerve to do that, I would never ever do something like this. Plus, he is a powerful skater and to skate on the music doesn't really matter so much to him" the Czech figure skater sulks. "I will get back to him this season!" how? "at the end of worlds I will look down on him from above!"

aktualne.centrum.cz/sportplus/ostatni-sporty/ostatni/clanek.phtml?id=627999&tro6551_0_1press conference. "I made the same mistake as in Goteborg and I don't want to make that same mistake again. I am not saying that I gamble with my "name", but the position I build up in the last few years really means something "when I would have had the opportunity, I would have gone to the hotel straight away after the LP, would have packed my bags and gone home" "we will change a few things in training, so that the feeling I have now will change. With the SP I never had such problems so far" "to get a medal at worlds is of course on my program"

here's an interview with a video: www.sport.cz/clanek/143932-verner-obuje-drevaky-a-potahne-na-los-angeles.htmlhe says that already in the beginning he had a mistake, like he jumped the quad but there was a mistake and perhaps he just lost concentration or so. his LP is like that in the beginning there are 4 jumps but the first quad they didn't even count as quad but as a triple he said. Then he singled 3 other jumps and thus, with only for jumping passes completed, to get a good score is not possible so... Then they ask if there was something positive, and he talks about his SP score and how he reached that without even doing everything he can so that's great. his next plans is to go to the dentist (LOL!) and then he will change skates and on sunday he goes to Oberstdorf to start training for worlds in peace interesting bits from the article: - they won't change so much in their way of working. Just a few small things and they will work a bit on the LP. - he has to find the answers to the mistakes by himself and with himself - he does have a small silver medal in his suitcase and he is sad that almost noone knows about it. it should be talked about more because a competition is divided into two. Of course he is sad though he got just one and not more - he said he had a lot of problems with his skates and didn't get new ones for almost half a year. He has to do it fast because when you fit new ones it's almost like skating into a piece of wood and it takes a long time to break in new skates. And of course he doesn't wanna do that a few weeks before worlds. - he has to go to the dentist because he started to have problems with a tooth right there at Europeans - he was invited by the czech ambassador on the last day, and they took the team out for a walk, so he was happy he also saw something of the city

I can't really blame Joubert for skating to Requiem For A Dream (except as a joke, of course)-- I mean yeah if it was some very rare piece of music that was Tomas' signature that would be kind of rude and creepy, but Requiem is probably one of the best movie scores in the last decate (in my opinion) that is powerful and manly, so of course lots of people will want to skate to it. Which reminds me, there is a music score that Daisuke Takahashi was supposed to skate to this season from the movie La Strada ( Rahkamo & Kokko skated to it in 1994). It is so nice and I was hoping Tomas could skate to it one day, but then I realised that Daisuke was using it this/next season so that's not really possible.

It was the day after one of the best figure skaters of Europe fell from 2nd to 6th place. How does Tomas Verner feel? "The day after? It reminds me of this catastrophic film about New York. I guess I feel like that. Like a flooded and frozen New york" He tried to joke before correcting himself: "No, I am not over it yet"
He'd rather avoid talking to his trainers. Only with his physiotherapist Fransesco he spoke for a long time. And with his choreographer Lori Nichol, on the telephone across the ocean. She didn't see the broadcast yet so he pleaded: "please don't tape it on video!"
No, he didn't mess up his skate that much as in Goteborg "But still in the end it was just the body, there wasn't anything of me inside" he claims.
His trainers Mrs Koprivova and Mr Huth already noticed this before his LP. "His eyes were not so sparkly and lively" Tells Mrs Koprivova. "Like he already lost....or maybe before that at the draw, when he knew he would be skating first of the last group"
"I gave more attention to that than I should" he confessed "I should have taken the draw just as some number"
Yesterday he came to the hall, to cheer his college Carolina Kostner. Familiar and unfamiliar people were trying to see where the problem lies and how to solve it.
He even heard: "Doesn't it matter to you that for figure skating you are just too smart?" on which he answered. "well, whoever does 3 single jumps instead of triples in a skate where he is defending a title, isn't very smart. If that would be the problem I would skate into the barrier with my head a couple of times at training"
From the beginning of the season he works together with a psychologist. Only his plan to fight his own psychological lablity he searches within himself. Now he believes he found it.
"In Oberstdorf I will skate my SP and LP fully every day. I have to get rid of these thoughts, that the LP won't kill me, that I can skate it at any time, morning or evening in whatever circumstances. So that I can get over this block that I seem to have right now"
Kostner then right in front of him missed the lutz. No, these 2 days were not good for the "golden" group of last year.

I just love how that article is written and I really like the idea of how Tomas is planning to solve this. I also think that if he skates it in training all the time fully, it will turn out better at the next competitions. Then he can go on the ice for the LP at competition and think of how he skated it many times succesfully in training and build loads of confidence on that

Thank you for your translations, Deedee. ;D I read all of them at once. Tomas is very sweet to leave a message for us. I'm sure he would solve his problems well and be better in the next competition.

"If that would be the problem I would skate into the barrier with my head a couple of times at training." Oh Tomas, your sense of humour is the best. ;D I think I can relate a little to what Tomas goes through. I have the same problems keeping my thoughts under control, getting distracted easily, trying to tell the little worrying voices in my head to shut up. And I'm not a coach but I agree practicing full programs is probably better at this point than parts. Maybe skating parts is better for practicing choreography details, but full programs is maybe better for body conditioning and maintaining focus.

I visited the shop a couple of times but mostly I was only drooling over what they have )
