The event Sinead and John are at is a "warmup" event for the season where they can go to skate their programs and get feedback to help them prepare for the major competitions this season. Last year they only skated the OD but they may do both the OD and FD this year. This event is smaller so it's not televised, though occasionally someone may record it and post the recording on youtube, etc. I don't know if anyone is going. I will look to see if I can find information about results though I don't know if anyone is skating against them. I'm sure John will update us on how it went. I have to disagree about the website. It's actually pretty straight forward and easy to navigate in my opinion. It has great content on it too! I don't believe this competition is listed on their events though. I hope that was some help to you. ETA: Here's the website. Not sure if they post results: www.icesheffieldskatingacademy.co.uk/

Ok, then I won't necessarily disagree completely with you. ..which website were you trying to search before?? I googled Sheffield Ice Skating and looked for the club website.

There's prob a link somewhere on this board for last year's. They will be in Paris for TEB. To my knowlege, it is the same for all events. You can either purchase a ticket for each event you want to attend, or you can purchase an all event pass that includes tickets to every event. I'm sure there are members here going to TEB. I am going to Skate America. Some people have posted about the GP events in this thread: absoluteskating.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3799

I checked the site (thank you, sunnyskate): they have IJS Competition and Dance Social on Sunday. Do you know what is this "Social" thing?

Thanks, mella! CD and OD aren't far off PBs. FD is a little lower but I know they've just started doing complete run-throughs so the fact that it was ready for competition is great!
I hope I'm answering your question correctly! At social dance sessions, a bunch of people come to the session and then dance the different dances with each other and switch around from partner to partner.. now in this particular case, I have no idea who it involves but I've seen social dance sessions at the end of competitions before as there are many more skaters around to participate.

this social dance thing sounds a bit like "put your car keys in the bowl" lol without the hankey pankey Sad about the fd being a bit low .... but its so early in the session its pointless too worry i just hope someone was there and recorded something

Scores look good to me. The FD is down somewhat on what we'd expect, but it's very early days. I looked through the juges scores and their last lift wasn't counted, so that hurt the TES. Also, elements 5 and 6 (is there a list somewhere of what all the abbreviations mean?) seemed a bit unclean. Anyway, great stuff. Can't wait to see the OD and FD!

It is one of the reasons to do ice dance! It is a session where they do the compulsory dances and everyone can do them with a whole range of people. The reason why they work is everyone does the same steps so you can do the waltz, foxtrot, tango, etc with anyone. You really should try to skate with as many people as possible instead of your regular partner (that is if you have one). There is usually a list of the dances put up so people know what is coming up and can ask someone if they would like to do that dance with them. It is a bit like the old fashioned ballroom dances that you see in old movies. Great fun and good experience. The problem you usually run into is that there are more women than men. So you will get a few of the ladies doing them on their own if they can't find a man to do them with. It is quite amazing to see about 20-30 couples doing one dance at the same time. I would love to be over there for something like that. I attended a social dance session at the end of US Nationals back in 98 when I was visiting there which I had heaps of fun at and there were plenty of people.

It's nice.. even when there aren't enough men to go around.. to have the opportunity to skate with other people when you don't have a partner!
