Thanks Ioana and Reut! Think this is perhaps a good thread too for people who are actually there to post some lil impressions? From the top of my head, in random order, I believe these people are there: Reut, Titanilla, Nadin, Jana (Sunshine Lizzie), Dee Sorry if I forgot you, doesn't mean you aren't invited to spill! Skating/skater news, or random experiences concerning travel/trip/hotel/sightseeing (hohum) .. all is welcome and very appreciated!!!

Since I was able to watch the events live on Ice Network today, I thought I'd post some thoughts. I've posted my thoughts on the CD and OD in this thread on Sinead and John's board: absoluteskating.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=sinead&action=display&thread=3920No need to type them again as they're already there. As far as the other disciplines, I skipped out on pairs to go skating myself so I don't have any reactions to them and I only came back in time to see Yu-na and Carolina. Yu-na looked amazing as always. I love her calm, cool and collected demeanor and her technique. Something I would love to emulate! She looked great in the costume as well. It's awesome for her to have reached almost her PB--less than a point!--so early in the season. I'm intrigued to see how her and Brian Orser's new strategy plays out this season (check out Ice Network for an article on that). I was curious to see if working with Frank Carroll improved Carolina's technique and/or consistency. I don't know if she has worked with him long enough to see a true change or not but she didn't have the strongest skate. Frank Carroll is a no-nonsense, down to business coach (I once skated in a seminar with him coaching--I was impressed!). I'm curious how he approaches issues such as missed jumps. (During the seminar he basically said if you're going to do the jump, do it. If not, you're wasting your time and why are you here? Just do it!). I can't remember for sure but I don't think Carolina completed a combination. I'm pretty sure she fell on the opening jump of that combo. She doubled her lutz (I didn't check edge to see if it was indeed a lutz and not a flutz.. but I don't think she's a flutzer ). She did complete her double axel though. Her spins seemed to be ok. I'd be curious to see the breakdown on the sheets for both the ladies and men's field. I hope Ice Network posts them again. Men.. The first person I saw when Ice Network scoped the men waiting to get on the ice was Javier. He looked SO serious!! I was interested to see how he would skate in his first GP and I think he's doing pretty well.. definitely not perfect, but it's a step up for him. I can't wait for his free.. love it! I love Ryan Bradley and so happy for him to hit the 4t/2t!! And the 2a!! Sometimes he gets crazy on the air in those. I'm not quite sure what happened with the 3lz.. was just too forward on the landing. He looks a little stronger. I can't remember his spins well but I think they've improved. Alban.. another one I love to watch. He made my day by coming out with "riding boots" on. He's so much fun to experience on the ice. I've enjoyed seeing Yannick improve over the past number of years. I first saw him at Junior Worlds in 05 and he's still holding strong. He has a lot of energy and that definitely brings the audience into his programs. I was so happy for Adam to get that axel in his program and skate well through the other elements! It is crazy to me to see how low Nobu gets on his landings.. almost like he's going to fall over but somehow manages to pop back up. I think his soft landings sometimes make continuing on after the jumps more difficult but I love them all the same! I saw him practice the free a number of times during the summer and I'm anxious to see that! Tomas was amazing nailing all his elements!! I hope he holds strong through the free. I really enjoyed the character he brought to the program. I don't remember a lot of Peter's or Sergei's. I remember Chao held up pretty well and I think he skated cleanly. It was not Vaughn's night. He didn't seem to be jiving. I heard him tell Scott Smith in the K&C that the axel felt good going up but he wasn't sure what happened.. wasn't together on the landing. Brian also didn't seem to be totally together. I think his program would be awesome if he nailed everything but when he doesn't I think it breaks the character.

SunnyskateThanks for your report from having watched TV . - It let me feel a little bit like having been at TEB myself . - Your personal comments e.g. about Frank Caroll made it even "tastier" .

very slow internet connection, so just some random impressions: overall pretty interesting competition so far
Courtesy of BA, I missed the CD.
Men: Unfortunately Ryan doubled the second toe of his quad combination and didn't have a clean landing on his lutz Nobunari skated really well and led for a long time, very expressive Ponsero also had great presentation but not perfect jumps, though nothing like at NHT I enjoyed Adam Rippon's SP, he was in good shape Really like Alban's version of William Tell, so funny. He had some great choreography in there, moves that only he'd get away with. Brian: well, Yu-na beat his score (72.50 for Brian, 76.08 for Yu-na). His jumps weren't that clean and I'm not sure it's such a great idea to keep last season's programme Tomas definitely deserves to be in the lead, but I wasn't convinced by the programme, nor the outfit. He seemed quite slow and the choreography didn't seem that complete, I may be a bit biased because I'm not a fan of the music, too overused
Pairs: Really enjoyed Maria Mukhortova and Maxim Trankov, I like the programme, nice music and all very fluid. Absolute highlight were Aljona and Robin though, they skated a blinder. Amazing atmosphere, the audience was completely silenced and you could have heard a pin drop in the arena. I just love this programme, they skate it so beautifully
Ladies: What a line-up. In the end Elena wasn't there to step in for Sasha, so just 10 ladies Alexe Gilles did well and got high marks Yukari had a beautiful costume and some interesting choreo Mao singled her Axel at the beginning of the programme, then put a double toe at the end of it. Again, not sure it was so wise to use the music again. Nice choreo, but too familiar after last season, it's like a short version of her LP with a new costume Yu-Na: WOW Just brilliant, she skated so beautifully, landed all her jumps with ease, nice programme and very good presentation, she is so light on the ice, it's amazing, love the way her programme finishes Unfortunately Carolina's first international outing since changing coach wasn't that brilliant. She didn't look confident and fell on her opening combination, after that the programme somewhat lost on expression.
Dance: Some very strange costumes going on here We had three American folk programmes in a row, with the Kerrs being the highlight for me. Really enjoyed their OD live, very tongue in cheek and some great moves going on in there. Absolutely love the ending. All in all a better performance than last week. Pechalat/Bourzat got the higher score and ended up in second place, just a point above Sinead and John. I thought Nathalie's dress was quite cool, very suited to the music but not stereotypical, with lasso attached and cowbow boots. Tessa and Scott were last to skate and until they were actually on, I wasn't sure what music they'd be skating to as their costumes didn't look folky at all. Thought their performance was really good, nice programme and great presentation.

Thanks I'm glad you enjoy that part. It makes it more interesting for me. Thanks, Nadin! I like to hear from someone who is there as the competition always looks different in person than on a computer screen.

I seond this . Nadin, plus a special thank to have made the effort to make the report so quickly after an exhausting program in the afternoon and evening. I know how tired I felt after, last year . Hope you can enjoy today as much or even more as you did probably already yesterday. Lucking forward to more personal reports here on AS... - Thanks everybody in advance.

Vaughn looked a little better today though he still had a few jumping issues. I only saw those in the replay because it took me 5-7 mins just to get the vid started on my computer. Ice Network kept freezing up my browser!
Peter looks good so far.

Peter shouldn't wear white sparkly "dust" on his pants. It makes him look like he fell. He skated really well. The only couple things I saw were that he turned out of 2 jumps. Now ice network's feed is being irritating and stopping, giving me snapshots. Grrrr.

Javier had a couple fall deductions, but I thought for his first senior GP outing, it was pretty good--he attempted all the jumps. The ones he did were good and his spins were great. My favorite part being the circular footwork. Also, you may notice that some of the snapshots from the interview came from portions of that program. I saw Sigrid & Company (Aritiquaun forum members? AS members? Both?). Actually, I've seen them a number of times and in case anyone was wondering, Sigrid is wearing U as in We Love You I think.. I can never see the beginning of the phrase. I enjoyed watching Nikolai's reactions. I don't know who was skating harder, Javier or Nikolai at the boards. He seemed to be pleased with the skate and said something in K&C.. I think that it didn't matter--that Javier went behind Peter. I think this time was probably all about getting the program out there.

Chao skated well. I'd like to feel more connection to him and the music.. but I think that is something to work on. He's done well! Ryan on the other hand had a problem with just about every jump landing. He was either hopping on the end, or turning out on the end. I think that was mostly because he wasn't checking well. He even doubled a salchow. He did land the opening quad. At least I'm pretty sure I wasn't imagining things. I do always have a bit of a laugh when I find out what Ryan is skating to. For some reason, we have a tendancy to pick the same or similar music.. often times in the same season. ;D Though the versions are very different, I'm also skating to Dark Eyes. For my "fun" program, I'm skating to.. we'll call it a Beethoven medly. Ryan skates to a Mozart (& Bach) medley.

Alban is so much fun! He skated pretty well though there's still room for improvement. Just 1 fall and one other bad landing that I'm thinking of. I'm looking forward to seeing this program later in the season!

Brian started out struggling with his jumps, but as the music became stronger, so did Brian. He ended up finishing the program in a much better spot than he started. He's REALLY good when he's on. When his jumps suffer, so does his program. I'm glad he was able to turn it around.
