Yes, that's what it says. He also says that in practice the jumps were ok but then it was problem to do more elements one after another. So good job in the LP considering what was going on with him. I hope he can spend a day or two in bed and is fit soon again!!!

LP is up on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DahHhbKw8KMTomas looked happy at the end of the LP. I think he put in a good fight considering he fell on the opening quad and had some sort of flu. With a 5th place finish he got 7 GP points and still has a chance of making the final, but part of me hopes he won't make it so he won't fatigue before February (maybe this placement is a blessing in disguise, yes?). Technically, I would suggest changing the second quad to a lutz like last year, then he would only need to focus on bringing his combinations up to 3T. He's already doing a lot more choreographically than Plushenko (the CBC commentators mentioned this a couple times).

will be online around 12: zpravy.idnes.cz/mfdnes.asp?v=267&r=sporto&c=1290138 Sick verner was thinking: should I withdraw or not?Instead of fighting against the other competitors, Tomas verner was fighting against his own body. "it was a competition like the night" he evaluated his own 5th place at skate America, part of the grand prix series. He traveled 20 hours to lake placid, when he arrived, he got hit by a virus, he didn't sleep and coughed. In training he did all the elements one after another, but it hurt his muscles. The SP was a catastrophe. Te fall on the quad broke him, the othter jumps also went bad. "I was like skating outside my body" he says. When waiting for the marks in the K&C, he told mr. Huth that "If I would have just skated around and didn't jump in the first 40secs, it would have been better" He ended up in 11th place. Mr huth gave him the advice to withdraw and heal himself. Only after the 6min warm up before the freeskate Tomas made the final decision. "I want to skate" In the LP Tomas set things straight. He didn't manage the quad toe, but after that he jumped everything he wanted, including 2 triple axels. "but the expression...at the end I missed the strenght to do it right. The last footwork section I was like parked on the ice" 5th place was not what he wanted. "when I would have been fit, I would have thought about victory. My jumping form was there" It's frustrating him that this virus appeared at such an innapropriate moment. "not only that it ruined my competition, but I guess also entering the GPF. Also I wanted to go for a series of vaccination next week, but now I have to wait with that"

We attended Skate America and wached the practices and short/long programs for the men. We felt so bad for Tomas after the short program, I myself felt sick afterwards. We had honor to meet him Friday afternoon after his practice. He was jogging inside the arena behind the seating. When we spotted him we ran up to him. He stopped and we took two pictures. He is so sweet and handsome!!! He told us he skates from the heart. We were absolutely thrilled that we got the opportunity to meet him. It was a dream come true! I wanted to hug him but with all the germs going around, etc., I just squeezed his arm, for fear of passing on germs even though I felt fine. Enjoyed his LP and audience was very responsive. There were 3 banners hung supporting him and gifts were thrown by fans, including us. We hope he gets well and strong soon so he can continue his beautiful skating and win more medals. Love you Tomas!!!!!!

You must have met him about the time I walked into the arena because literally the first skating-related thing I saw (besides Peter Carruthers doing an interview outside) was Tomas running past me as I walked into the arena. Good thing I wasn't walking faster or we would have run into each other. (I wouldn't have minded but I think being sick did enough to his body ). I wish I could have seen him skate in better health but I am really glad he did not w/d and though it was under par, he certainly did have a good long under the circumstances. I would have liked to have a chance to speak to him but I definitely think leaving the arena and resting was more important for him than talking to fans!
