People are saying someone might voluntarily withdraw to save energy for the Olys, but I don't really see that happening.
The Japanese have home territory advantage and are probably expected by their federation to compete, the Americans have a three-way rivalry and want to beat each other. Joubert--well he doesn't have as much to prove here, but he's stubborn.
Regardless of whether anyone withdraws or not it should be a really interesting competition.

when is the GPF? I guess eurosport doesn't air it, does it? I'd like to see it, but I don't think I'll able to we only have eurosport.

Dec 3-6 I will edit my first post with some info... It won't be on Eurosport, but I'm sure there will be things available online.... I'm at work on Dec 5 though and now it's too late to cancel it and btw I feel really SHiT for Brian, because from what I hear and read, it's pretty damn serious! I hope he will be OK before Olys because if not. that'd be a real real shame

www.sportovninoviny.cz/zpravy/verner-se-diky-zraneni-jouberta-zucastni-finale-gp/409464"of course I am glad I got the opportunity to skate at the GPF, eventhough it was a bit unexpected" said tomas to CTK. The european champion from 2008 is preparing himself at the moment in Oberstdorf. "I have been training fully again since a week, after I grabbed myself together again from the flu I got in Canada" he said Tomas was first alternate for the GPF, because he came in 7th place after 2 GP's. So there was a chance he could go to Tokyo but he didn't count on it at all. "I followed skate canada to see if I would qualify, but afterwards it was sure I didn't qualify directly. I don't have so much time to prepare now though, but it doesn't really matter so much. Jumping I can do, so it just depends on wether or not I will feel good." said Tomas The current European champion Joubert is according to the agency SID seriously injured to his foot and needs an operation. It's unclear right now how long he will be out of the running but Tomas does not doubt his parrticipation at the olympic games. Of couse he won't be missing at the olympics. It's not such a big deal...so he cut through the boot during a jump, it happens. Something similar happened to me in 2003. They sewed everything back together and a few weeks later I was competing again" said Tomas. and then some random info about GPF

www.sport.cz/ostatni/ostatni/160476-verner-chce-ve-finale-gp-zajet-lepe-nez-loni-kdy-byl-ctvrty.htmlI'm too lazy to do a full translation now (maybe tomorrow) but in short - he wants to skate a better competition than last year (and he doesn't look at the result but at the skates) - he wants to show that SA was just because he was sick and that TEB is more like the direction he's going this season - he's not completely fit yet, especially if he compares it to the beginning of the season when he was really well prepared - practice is going well though, jumps are OK and he feels good on ice. - he thinks it wouldn't have been good if he had rejected the invitation to GPF, because he thinks he has it in him to skate a good competition. - to check his health he consulted his father who is a doctor. His father even checked his blood to see if everything was OK. When daddy approved Tomas started to train and prepare again. - Tomas thinks GPF is a different competition than the others, last year he didn't know what to expect of it. it all goes a bit faster and the pressure is higher. Because the 6 best skaters are there and there is really no room for any mistakes. - he doesn't really like it, but he will take his responsibility to fight for Europe as the only European. - the winner gets a lot of money but Tomas doesn't really look at it. It's a nice bonus but if you do it only for the money you don't have a chance to be successfull.
