Interview from S&J after Euros www.absoluteskating.com/interviews/2010kerrs.htmlI wonder if Torvill & Dean felt that when they had their comeback? Thinking about Euros in 2012 in the UK. Surely there is more chance of S&J getting gold than any other Brit team being near the podium in the space of less than 2 years. Or am I being totally naive and biased?

I would imagine that you are right Mel. Sinead and John were very close to the podium at the European Championships this year. While it seems that the French team of Nathalie Pechalat and Fabian Bourzat are going to continue, I am not sure who else from the European Championship Top 5 will stay after the Olympics. Then you have to consider the likes of Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte who are just outside of the Top 5 but who are attempting to make their way higher up the ranks.
Even with a small number of retirements from European skaters after this year's Olympics and with less than 2 years improvement from our other British dance teams, we may see our other dance teams breaking into/being just outside of the Top 10 perhaps? (I would be pleased to see them do even better!) However the great thing about skating is, you never know for sure what is going to happen! With possible break ups, retirements, injuries and vast improvements, you never know what is going to happen!

I sincerely hope that they still have the motivation to continue past this season. They are right, though. They have to feel it in their heart!

Well like I said in basic skating, I can really really understand the quote that was chosen as title, that other people giving up is not a motivation to stay, but then again.. wouldn't be nice to end the career with a possible medal? But I am biased, I just want them to stay Thinking about Euros in 2012 in the UK. Surely there is more chance of S&J getting gold than any other Brit team being near the podium in the space of less than 2 years. Or am I being totally naive and biased? I tend to agree with you Mel, but I think the only fair answer to this is that it depends on progression of the current young couples, and you can't really predict that.

I just really hope they stay, it's so much fun watching them and of course it would be brilliant to see them in Sheffield.
As Sinead mentioned in the interview, they hadn't completely finalized their exhibition, so they used the exhibition practice to do that. There weren't many skaters at that particular training session so they had three or four run-throughs and it was so interesting to watch the programme come together bit by bit and then see it performed at the actual exhibition. For me that practice was one of the best bits.

That's fun to see. Memorable practices are always the best!
