Stéphane was going to attend the Opening Ceremony in any case; I'm not sure being the flagbearer makes a big big difference. And honestly, I'd be so honoured, I wouldn't even think about if it's a good choice or not. Reut, the ceremony is indoors, no cold

It's a really great honor, no doubt about that. I believe that everbody in Stéphane's team is very proud and happy now. Good to know that the ceremony is in-doors. But what about the waiting time? The athletes all have to gather somewhere, and it's a LOOOONG way from "A" for Greece (Yeah, I know this doesn't start with "A" but traditionally they always go first ) until SUisse or SWitzerland... That is what makes me a little concerned. Anyway I', gonna stay awake all night to watch the ceremony life. After Olympics I'll certainly be addicted to Coffee and Chocolate.

Stéphane must be very proud of himself since it's a great honor. That being said, I have to say that I'm not that excited about it, because I'm worried about his preparation for competitions. I read on another board that Plushenko was also chosen but he and Mishin refused to be flagbearer because it should be very exhasting. Many of his rivals won't even attend the opening ceremony as far as I know, including Joubert and Plushy... But maybe it's not the time to worry about, I guess. Most of all, if Stéphane accepted to be flagbearer, I just should be happy for him. And the fact the last flagbearer of Switzerland won the gold in Turin relieve me Wish all the best to Stéphane in Vancouver!!!

Wonderful news! Personally I can't think of any better preparation for the Olympics than carrying the flag for your country. Can't really imagine why anyone would turn it down, if that doesn't get you into the Olympics spirit, I don't know what will...

Countless things may affect an athlete, especially in figure skating when concentration is so crucial: shoelace can break three minutes before the performance, the ice is crushy , the weather, toothache, whatever. I guess they are trained and experienced to deal with it. You never know. Stephane is used to attention and big arenas. I don't doubt Stephane will have a blast at the opening ceremony, he worked so hard to be there. And such things become family legends the next generations look up to, like your grandpa was an Olympic flag bearer. He already has an Olympic medal and plenty other medals to be proud of.

i think we shouldn't really worry that it'll wear him out physically. he's proven that he's a smart guy who knows his limits and i'm sure he would've never accepted the task if he had any doubt that it may jeopardize his whole Olympics. as elanor said, very many different things can affect an athlete so a couple of previous bad examples of flag carriers don't necessarily make a rule the opening ceremony will be a pleasure to watch this year! ;D

AAAAAAA! I am late for voting! The news is already on Stephane's official page. Surely 8 kilos won't kill him, and just imagine what inspiration he can get from such a role in this great ceremony! I am very happy he will be a flag bearer . These are his last Olympics, so I just want him to get the maximum from this event emotionally because that's what he's come back for - to feel the Olympic fire in his veins again. So i don't want him to miss anything . And I agree - there won't be more graceful male flag bearer in Vancouver than our Little Prince I didn't plan to watch the opening ceremony at all and I am really exhausted after the long business trip now but now I am sure I will easily get up to watch it.

Ladies, open the high qualities Champagne,Swiss flag are in the best hands now...!!!!I agree with poetic reply by Sally IV.... In my mind Stéphane would be a very suitable candidate for lighting the Olympic flame.. Message and spirituality of his exist is very much symbolism for me... He is very extraordinary person...but this isn´t news, hey?

I'm so happy Stéphane was chosen to carry the Swiss flag! I guess that makes me the flag bearer for the flag bearer, right? sm Oh, Kat - this thought came to my mind the moment I learnt Stephane had been chosen to carry the Swiss flag! So, I guess you could be also congratulated with this exciting choice!
