Majorov focus on figure skating and studies
Last Saturday, Alexander Majorov took a sixth place in the European Championships in figure skating. This is the most intense competition period in his life, simultaneously, he is studying physical therapy at Luleå University of Technology.
- It is difficult to study when I am away on competitions. I study while I travel, but during the competition days, I can not put anything into my head, he laughs.
Before the European Championships in Zagreb, Alexander Majorov, 22, has already completed nine competitions. With a day's stopover in Luleå he is packing his bags again for the Nordic Championship in Iceland. In the European Championship, he took a personal record in the free program, although his skates was missing and a sprained foot.
- I did not care so much because I was tired after all the competitions and an exam I have just written. But it all worked out and it feels amazing that I managed so well in such a big championship, with good points and placement.
Intense period
Alexander Majorov began studying physiotherapy at part-time in the autumn 2012 at LTU. Since then, the days are heavily scheduled. During weekdays, he makes an ice sessions between the hours of 8-10 and then he goes to university and study for a few hours. After the studies he eats to cope with yet another ice sessions plus a physical workout.
- My days are filled with training and stydying. It works right now, but this is the last year that I worry about.
Studying part-time makes it possible for him to combine with an elite venture in figure skating. His interest in the physiology and muscles made him chose to study physical therapy and despite the intense competition period, he has passed studies well.
- I hope to get a wild-card if I'm away at a competition, but I will of course do the work, he says.
It's the last year he feels some anxiety before, because he does not know what will happen to his figure skating in the future. Three years ago it was enough to have 210 points for being in the top three in the Championship, while today requires 250 points. A new generations is entering the arena who are raising the level of scores.
- If I competed three years ago, I had been on top, but it's tougher today. If i do well, I get to postpone the final year of study until I my skating career is over.
He has chosen to study simultaneously as he invests in figure skating. After the skating career he wants to focus on becoming a physical therapist in Swedish Sports or a physiotherapist at Sweden Olympic kommite.
- I have chosen to study while I figure skate to open my chances for a job like that.
Aiming at the Olympics and World Championships
Alexander began practicing figure skating at the age of four. Figure skating was a natural part of Alexander's life because his parents are coaches in Luleå figure skating club. Now they are his coach and choreographer.
Since 2006, he has achieved great success nationally and internationally, both as a junior and senior.
- As a kid a big motivation was to become better than my dad and that I have achieved, Alexander laughs.
Now he aims to participate in the World Championships in 2014 and Olympics 2018.
- The success of EM has obviously opened many doors, but it takes more to compete in the World Championships and Olympics.
