I'm going to post a portion of it tonight. And the rest as soon as I can... The Kerrs: Making their Mark by Lynn Rutherford Sinead and John Kerr, the personable Scottish siblings who made a double-expresso splash with ice dance fans last season, have so much positive energy that they can turn even the most severe setbacks into plusses. Take their late start, for instance. Skating together only since January 2000, the duo have barely had time to refine their technique. What's more, dance newcomer John- who placed 4th in singles at the British junior championship in 1999 - had to learn compulsory dances almost from scratch. "We never did juniors, so we had a sense of urgency," said the 22 year-old John. "Everything we could do to try to improve, we just did it. And because we weren't out there in the Junior Grand Prix, we're not tired of it. This fall's Skate America was our first time in America. To us, it's still a big deal, it's exciting." "It's like we're playing catch up. I hope we don't lose that feeling. We can't lay back and thing, 'Okay, good.' We have to get better each year, with better free dances," added his 26 year-old sister. Then there's the very fact that they are brother and sister, an inconvenient fact of nature in the often-romantic performance world of ice dance. "Because we are siblings, we have a different kind of energy than other teams. I think we used that in our "Matrix" free dance last season; it was all about hard edges and attack," said John. "And we live and travel together, so we can sit in the car and talk about our programs; we're not coming in seperate cars and then not seeing each other again until the next practice. That's another plus," said Sinead, again building on her younger brother's thoughts. Even having their funding withdrawn didn't slow them down. "It was actually good motivation; if you feel people don't believe in you, then you want to say 'stick that in your pipe and smoke it.' I believe that developing a kind of siege mentality is great motivation for day-to-day training," reasoned John. Well here's a bit of the article. More as soon as I am able to. Lana

Thanks Lana. xx PML at your alias Mel!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D Yes, I'd LURVE to look like her aswell - greeeaaat figure! - but I think I'd choose the dishy gardener over her hubby! Cheers Lana for typing that up for us!! Looking forward to Part 2. BTW I was one of those who criticised the quality of their CDs in the very early days, at their first Brits in 2000, and copped an earful off Mel and a riposte from John on their website, but that "siege mentality" S&J speak of in the interview certainly works, as their CDs are now top notch.
