Yes, it's a very good thing that I have time to improve! Unfortunately I don't really have a freestyle coach at the moment (the one I took from moved far away) so that makes it a little more difficult but I work hard. Our club has a show the 16th and the club I coach for has a show the 9th. I'll likely be in both (the 9th so that the students don't forget what they're doing since they have 3 total practices to learn the program). My club's show I know I'm at least in a group number but for some reason apparently someone doesn't want solo numbers so I guess I can't do my holiday program. I've decided eating over the holidays is highly overrated. I'm going to TRY not to eat a lot of what I'm not supposed to over the holidays!!

Hey! So you are going to have a show as well!!! ;D It's a shame you can't do your solo number, though! I'm always soooooo nervous & so afraid even before the shows.. shame of me, I know, but I can do nothing! Oh my.. so you are a coach already! Yay for you, you are doing a wonderful job!!! Thank you, La Rhumba for your nice wishes!!! Especially, the one about eating I'm hungry now.. but I'm not allowed to eat, it's too late for eating, so I'm considered to go to bed or otheeeeerwiiiise ....

la Rhumba, thanks I used to get nervous before I did anything. My knees would knock, I would shake and I'd drive my friends nuts because the only way I could kinda control it was to pace like a maniac! Anyway, one time I failed one of my tests (ok so I failed that one twice but that's the only one I've failed so I figure it worked itself out), one of the judges said regarding my nerves, "GET OVER IT!" I was shocked at how she told me that, but you know? that was probably the best advice I've ever gotten. I get totally zoned, major game face before competitions. I can't think outside the box or I'll get distracted. Before shows I'm definitely more at ease. I don't know if that harsh advice is any help to you! Coaching is lots of fun but I wish the students took it more seriously or realized that if they want to get to a point, if they want to coach, they have to work hard at what they're doing to get there. You can't just take a test and pass it. It's so much more exact than that. For most of them, it's only recreational. They skate 5 months out of the year or so and only once a week. Some of my students skate more than that. I really do love it! I also coach learn to skate but they don't generally do any of that stuff. Food...I just ate cause I just got back from skating but it was healthy.

I really need to get back into skating. Sunny, I'm so jealous of you, competing, skating in shows AND coaching! I'd love to coach the little ones but I'm not entirely sure how much skill I'd have to have, etc... I can't afford skating right now, which stinks, since I got new boots earlier this year!

If I didn't coach, I'd have a lot of trouble affording skating. I am going to need new boots kinda soon...mine are 2.5 years and every so often I feel them get looser. I am able to adjust ok but I have a feeling pretty soon they'll be a bit too broken down. When I began coaching I felt the same way. The more I coach the better I get at explaining things or figuring out ways to help the students understand what I'm talking about. Since skating is a lot about feeling the moves and you can't explain to another person how to feel the moves, I try to make connections between other moves they can do that are similar (2 foot turns, 3 turns, mohawks are like backward wiggles...which would be rotating hips back and forth and going backward on 2 feet as a result). Every once in a while a lightbulb goes off in my head and I think, ooo, I should try to apply that to my own skating! I was lucky to have connections to the club and learn to skate program. I think it would be harder getting into it not knowing where to start...but you could always send out a resume to local skating clubs or offer to volunteer--then you might have connections and also can put that experience on a resume.
