I don't skate at the Richmond Training Centre, but I do skate at an affliated club and I realized that Ken also coaches at the club I skate at. And I heard from the other coaches that he will be coming to coach during my skating sessions. He'll be leading us in some group lessons, but I'm sure he'll be available for some one-on-one attention since there aren't too many of us during that session. I'm looking forward to it.

I had my first group session with Ken today. He led us in stroking exercises for 15 minutes or so, then let us do whatever we wanted but said that we could approach him whenever we wanted. At first, he was just making little circles near the centre of the ice because everyone was doing their own thing and probably didn't want to bother him. Then, i guess he got bored or something so he started going around to everyone and asking them if they needed help. I asked him about back spins. Ken is a really cool guy, very nice and easy-going. He's very approachable and makes you feel completely comfortable when talking to him. But now, he's going to be away for the next 3 weeks .

I'm sure I would ask and ask and ask what is your level in skating? Yeah, I would've asked for more help, but i was too shy. As for my skating, I'm breaking in new skates, so I haven' been able to do many jumps yet. But before then, I had all my single jumps, except the stupid axel and was working on doubles. There are a couple coaches who also work at RTC.

than when he comes back you sure will have more questions, won't you? and how many skating rinks are there in your town?

Thanks Sunshine Lizzie! Sweet Witch: yes, lots of questions! I should make a list of questions to ask him and I think one of those questions should be: "will you be my full-time coach?" We have so many skating rinks in my town, i couldn't count them all! In the area where I live, there are at least 4 or 5 skating rinks within a 10 minute drive of each other. But there's definitely more than that in the whole town. It's because hockey is so important in Canada.

Ken came back from his "vacation" and was teaching at my session again yesterday. He was showing me a camel spin and nearly fell over. ;D He blames it on his skates, which he says he hasn't sharpened in 1 year. Somehow, i don't believe that. I didn't ask him many questions, after all. I think i'm too shy. But he actually remembered that he was helping me with my back sit spin 3 weeks ago! He asked me to show him how my spin was going, but i hadn't warmed up yet, so i felt so stupid doing one.

I have a question: does Ken know about this message board? Anyway, tonight was my last session with him for the spring skating session. I'm really hoping he'll coach during the summer session in July and August, but i never got a chance to ask him. He spent some time with me working on the axel, because "jumps are his thing". If only i had know earlier.
