Haha, I was just thinking about Grand Prix and have the following analysis... Tomas has a good chance at making the GPF *IF* he breaks a tie with Evan Lysacek OR surpasses Ryan Bradley. The points and rankings: www.isufs.org/events/gp2008/gpsmen.htmI think these 5 skaters are in position to take a spot if they remain consistent: 1) Jeremy Abbott: 15 points, 1 GP event to go (Russia) 2) Takahiko Kozuka: 15 points, 1 GP event to go (Paris) 3) Patrick Chan: 15 points, 1 GP event to go (Paris) 4) Johnny Weir: 13 points, 1 GP event to go (Japan) 5) Stephen Carriere: 13 points, 1 GP event to go (Japan) Tomas has 11 points from one event. Let's assume that Shawn Sawyer will move down (14 points from 2 events is not enough). His main competition for the sixth spot are: 1. Evan Lysacek: has 22 GP points Tomas would have to rank second at CoR or third with a total score above 227 to surpass Evan. At his 2nd grand prix event (NHK) last year Tomas scored 229.45. 2. Ryan Bradley: has 13 points, one GP to go (Paris) I don't think Ryan Bradley will do as well in Paris given the scary roster there (Chan, Joubert, Takahiko Kozuka, and others...). He will probably place 4th or below in Paris and move down the rankings. 3. Yannick Ponsero: 9 points, one GP event to go (NHK) Great technique but inconsistent, lost lead badly after short in Skate Canada. If he places 3rd or below at NHK he will probably not make it. 4. Kevin Reynolds, with 9 points with one event to go (NHK). Weird kid with big jumps but horrible artistry. Meh, not a threat. 5. Brian Joubert, 2 events to go, who knows how he'll do especially since CoP judging seems to be favoring the well-rounded skaters over the jumpers. In summary, I think Tomas has a good chance of being the 6th man, but it really is too early to be sure. I think he will improve in Russia but it will be a tough field there as well.

hmm according to my calculations (I love COP and calculating ) he would have had to fix a lot more to win... I think if he had skated clean, he would have scored 84.55 in the SP and in the LP 159.52 (total score of 244.07) if he had jumped 3f-3t in the SP, he would have had 4.30 points lower... (80.25, which is still a PB, and especially if he would have gotten some positive GOE, it can be higher...) But OK, these are if's...and it didn't happen... just I love to calculate LOL! thanks for the calculations towards GPF too Nina! let's wait and see what the others do at TEB!
