Thanks for your opinion lauravvv. You are, ofcourse, correct when you say this is off topic. It was not in any way directed against you, kayin. Actually, come to think of it, elanor is right - it's not so off topic. I guess, it was only unnecessary caution caused by the stricter rules in other forums.

But then, Chan is not artistic skater, he is a competitive and technical skater, he skates to take the best from others, improve and win. It's interesting what he says because, in reality, it's hard to see any need for self-expression in him (or maybe he can't really do it being raised with the current rules), his skating is the opposite of individual expression, as if he watched all the instruction videos: "how to skate a perfect program, win gold and please all the judges and most general audience even if hard core fans think you are overscored". . You are right in this, of course. I see the joy of skating in Chan, but it's not the same as self-expression or artistry. As pia already wrote, his programs are quite good and nice (and sometimes entertaining), but nothing special, nothing with deeper meaning or personal "touch". Probably it will come with age. I must say, I can see more personality and self-expression in some programs of such competition orientated and, supposedly, artistically lacking skaters, as Joubert and Plushenko (both older than Chan), than I do in Chan. Probably that's why they are in my imagined male single skaters top 10 (very near to the end of it), but Chan isn't .
