Ufff 40 minutes!! My personal best! ;D
Verner believes that his olympic experience will come in useful in Vancouver
The best czech figureskater Tomas Verner wasn´t very happy with his experience at his first Olympic Games in Torino. Though he ended 18th after a quite disappointing SP, which has been his best result so far in a world competition. He believes that skating under the five rings will help him in his future career.
He gained 180, 07 points over all. Bad sortition cost him a worse score. Because of his score after the SP he was first to skate on Thursday. "I aimed higher, but everything depends on the warm-up“.
He would have skated much later, if he hadn´t missed a lutz during his short programme. "I had to skate root-hog-or-die because of this silly mistake. At the end I had jitters,“ confessed the nineteen year old competitor. He managed the risk alright and he moved from the 22 to 18th place.
So he has improved his actual maximum, which was 19th place at the 2004 Worlds in Dortmund.
Tomas had many supporters during his both performances in the Palavela hall. He didn´t pay attention to them on Tuesday, whereas on Thursday he noticed them. "I had to calm down before my LP, so I looked around the hall and noticed poeple waving with czech flags! That made me so happy. It is good to know, that somebody has come to see you and will cross fingers for you!“
There was nobody from his family to support him though.
"They weren´t totally anonymous to me, I had known some of them from the previous competions. There were also people from the czech squad and czech international judges,“ said Verner.
He will stay in Torino for a few days. „ I am glad to take in this atmosphere, which will hopefully drive me at the Worlds. It is always good to have experiences from such competitions. Just because to know why to aspire,“ said Verner, who wants to visit some ski competitions in the mountains.
He wants to go home on February 21 and then he is going to focus on the Worlds in Calgary. „ It´s gonna be a different competition than the olympics. It will be a different atmosphere“
„ I am counting on the next Olympics! I am already preparing for them!“
