Tomorrow 8th February at 11:00 Tomas is going to be a guest of a “Host do domu“ ("Guest in house“) program on radio Cesky rozhlas 2 – Praha. www.rozhlas.cz/praha/uslysime/_zprava/315745"On the 25th of January the 20year old Czech from South Bohemia Tomas Verner showed off with a silver medal. It's not for the first time, but we sure don't meet his name for the last time. This polite and gentle man will be a guest of our program from 11:00 till 11:45. How he thinks of figure skating, what goes before the podium and what kind of person is this figure skater off ice and away from cameras?" At this link, www.rozhlas.cz/praha/portal at the top of the blue column there is an icon „Zive vysilani“ (and choices of the suitable connection speed) so I believe it is possible to hear it online. But good news for anyone who misses the live action - it should be available to download later

I did. If someone wants to hear Tomas, here's a link for download www.rozhlas.cz/radionaprani/archiv/_audio/00502965.mp3It was a nice inerview, I really enjoyed that. Tomas spoke well, the questions were fine too, nothing stupid. Even Tomas complimented to the reporter - when he asked him if something is so and so, Tomas replied, yes, exactly, I think your view on the topic seems to me very good and professional and I have nothing to add some quotes: asked about his beginnings, when The moment came, when he realized that skating is not just having fun on the ice, but it could be a serious part of his life – he said he doesn’t really remember how it all went when he was starting, he was something between 5-6 years, that he was just having fun and enjoying the time on the ice. Of course there were some falls, and very often on his head, which he is afraid that could show in his later age... The moment when he started seriously training came when he was some 11/12 years old, when Mrs Koprivova chose him to coach. others were often skeptic about this but she believed that Tomas had talent and could make it far, which he did and he is grateful to her. he definitely had some deficiences but she managed it all well and if it wasn’t her maybe he wouldn’t be where he is now and Czech republic maybe even didn’t have silver medal. About how does the teaching of skating goes, how one learns all the jumps and so – when Tomas came to Mrs Koprivova the first thing she taught him was to skate actually, that this is the basics, Tomas said „When you want to run, you have to be able to walk, if you want to fly you have to be able to run. If you want to jump, you need to learn how to skate.“ There was definitely mention of Carolina, though not really in the way we are used to hear those questions – the reporter said: now, if this question seems too personal to you, just hit me. And then he asked how he gained Carolina as a training partner Tomas: No, I’m not going to hit you, I am very grateful for this training group. He said that the the way how he came to this relation was quite difficult, and it’s mostly Rostislav Sinitsyn’s work - he was coaching in USA, and for request of German team (Huth‘s and his wife who were starting the Ice dome camps), Sinitsyn came back to Europe and because he’s friends with Tomas’s coach, it came to cooperation between Tomas and Huth and Carolina. So they met in Oberstdorf, where are great conditions for skaters. They also talked about the year 2005, about Tomas’s injury and then when he considers all the hard work he has to put into skating, is it actually worth it? – yes, the feeling when he stood on the podium was amazing and even if it had to be just this one time, all the work he has done was worth it. he’s thankful to all the people that helped him to get up there, and he’s glad he could make them and his fans happy. About the creation of programs – it is mostly choreographer’s work, it is hard to put all the elements and artistry together to fulfil the rules requirements, that the choreographer creates the choreography not exactly to suit Tomas, but always more difficult to pull him higher.
