Pavel Verner?
lol, not sure how that one appeared,
this picture also says it.
This is an interview from the local Pisek newspaper, I didn't translate some questions as we heard them loads of times, like about his skating beginings, about feelings after Worlds or why he skates singles..
Could you explain how that happened that you are a Pisek native?
Well, I could, but my father explains that better
Miroslav verner: My wife was born in Cimelice and her parents lived in Mirotice. In the time when we were expectin the birth we already lived in Ceske Budejovice, but my wife was at her parents so when the parturition came she went to Pisek maternal hospital. And that's why Tomas is native of Pisek. My older son Miroslav and younger daughter Katerina were both born in Ceske Budejovice.
How did Japanese managed the hosting of World championships, was people interested in it?
Lots of people came, the presence of peeople was unbelievable already at practices. For the main competitions it was sold out. The capacity of the audience was 9 thousand people so it was very good. And everything else, as transport between hotel and rink, care about the skaters, their interests, was on a very high level.
What are your plans for the future considering Olympics in Vancouver?
Well, you said that for me. I am now mostly concentrated on Olympics in Vancouver. I want to time my training cycle the way that my shape wold last till the Olympics. It should be my peak. My closest plans are my summer training and studies. I believe that I will start the next season as well as the last one. I want to start it with Grand Prix. Then I will prepare for Euros and Worlds.
Do you know some other sport natives from Pisek?
In the first place it is Katerina Neumannova, excellent cross country skier, Olympic winner and Worlds champion. Unfortunately we don't know each other personally, because Katka is a very busy person and a very active athlete. I have never had the honor to meet this other Pisek native. And I am quite sorry about it. Olympics in Torino were divided into three olympic villages and Katka had her own private house rented, so we didn't meet there. SO perhaps at home some day. From the press I know, that the hocley player Standa Neckar won Stanley Cup with Tampa Bay few years ago, but we didn't meet in person as well.
Do you get along well with your coach?
We do get along very well with my coach Vlasta Koprivova, which derives also from the fact that we work together already for some nine years. It was her who chose me, because she saw there was some talent she could work with. She has done a great piece of work and we got to the place where we are now. Some other people joined our team and now they are very important. Now I do have three coache: Vlasta Koprivova, in Germany it is Michael Huth and choreographer Rostislav sinicyn. I couldn't be without those people now.
You live in Ceske Budejovice, so I will ask: do you follow for example results of the local Dynamo? (football club)
To tell the truth, I don't really follow our league. Not that I wouldn't want to, but because of time. Bud I followed the Budejovice's ice hockey results in play off. If I watch football, then mainly the national tem's matches. I don't have time for the others, because I am a few days at home, then in Germany, I am alway away. I don't have time to watch the czech football league.
What do you say on the scandalous behavior of the czech football players in the hotel room after the home qualifying match with germany?
(the players partied all night long and tabloids even said they paid to some girls to come there; they had another important match in two days) Can something like that happen to figure skaters?
Everything can happen, because even figure skaters are peole and want to have fun. It is so, that who wants to celebrate, celebrates after the competition. I personally am not a fan of wild celebrations. I like to celebrate with my friends, that I have enough of all aroung the world, and I like to have fun even with my coaches, but such celebrations as the footballers had - I definitely don't do it.
Is there a malice among the figure skaters?
Definitely. On the ince for sure. But it doesn't work off ice like this. At least among the guys. I don't know what he other categhories are like but probably similar as with us. The atmosphere outside the competitions is very nice.
Do you have a lot of fans (girls)?
I do and they show themselves a lot. They send me letters, write on my website, I get presents and flowers from them at the competitions, which they throw on the ice with different messages. I have a great support from them which is very nice.
You are a young man, what fashion do you like?
I like to dress nicely, but not that I would follow what's going on on the catwalks in Paris or Milan, I really don't. I know what others around me wear. Skaters are interested in fashion, so I watch what's being worn and I try to dress the way so that noone would say I just walked out of cave. But that I would be some model - definitely not.
What is your sports and private future?
Hard to say. Mainly I want to prepare the best for Olympics in Vancouver. And then it depends what will be going on around me, what my health will be.Besides sport I try to study and I only hope I will finish school successfully.
How often do you go to Pisek?
Not very often, but when I can, I go here with my parents. I always look forward to pancakes taht my granmother makes. They are excellent.
