About the CD, from the ISU rules: "For the ISU Senior World Championships the one (1) Compulsory Dance, from the dances declared annually for Senior Events, shall be drawn at the World Junior Championships from the dances not drawn for the Four Continents and European Championships, and announced to the Members by the Secretariat" So, we have to wait till the Junior Worlds, right? And yes, I also heard that the next OD will be folk again

I guess that it is very important for all of them to come up with something completely different to what they did last year, if it is to be Folk for OD again..... So many of them naturally chose a folkdance that represented their own country/heritage, it will be great to se them try something that is not so "close to home". I wonder if we will get some thai moves....? .... or indian perhaps? ......A New Zealand Maori Haka inspired OD would be fun !!!!! Maori Haka: "....Various actions are employed in the course of a dance, including facial contortions such as showing the whites of the eyes and the poking out of the tongue, and a wide variety of vigorous body actions such as slapping the hands against the body and stamping of the feet. As well as chanted words, a variety of cries and grunts are used. ...." ..would love to se S&J do that... ;D ...but I guess that the people who had a problem with John showing too much leg wearing a kilt, would be A BIT concerned with traditional Maori attire.... www.australiafiesta.com/images/401719942_663c6717d8_45.jpg....I would like it though,...... ..a lot.... /AnniS

LOL Maori Haka!! If they were staying more traditional, it would vote for Celtic. If they were going for out of the ordinary, tribal dances are pretty cool!

going back to some earlier comments..
Ok so I will admit that I didn't watch all of the dances (yet), nor am I a lefty, but I pretend quite well! (I can write lefty) I hope to see the rest of the competition soon now that Ice Network finally put them up. In any case, I was totally impressed with all their dances! Everything has improved! I love how the FD evokes some sort of feeling I can't quite comprehend or explain. As I said in the Euro thread there is so much passion and emotion that goes into it. Know what I mean? I like to get caught up in the programs as pieces of art as much as for the skating itself.

Oh yes, the programs are definitely pieces of art.. ...and that FD music......aahhhhhh. Soft and strong at the same time, and sooo beautiful and powerful! ....just like S&J.. (does flattery work here? ...) I feel that the program has a lot of pain in it though, it seems full of sadness.... but lots of hope too, somehow. It´s magic! Since I am not a skater my self, and know basically nothing about the rules and the levels, and such, I go on the artistic expression and the general feel of it all.

Sometimes I like to forget about everything I know, just so I can appreciate it that way.

Yes Sunny, I know the feeling... I am a photographer, and veeery "damaged by my profession", I can´t look at other people´s wedding photos, baby photos or portraits etc..... without thinking... "- hrm, I would have liked it better like this...... , why didn´t they do that... ....who´s the photographer..." and so on. Not easy to just relax and enjoy a good photo .

I do that more to my own photos than other people's but I totally get what you mean. I used to absorb everything when I started skating because I wanted to know everything right away (obviously it doesn't quite work that way). When it comes to skating, if I like the program enough, I'll give it a second watch just so I can enjoy it instead of thinking about all the points!!

A confession: When any of my favourites skate, in competition, I rarely see the whole program..... I get soooo nervous... I grab the remote and change the channel every four or five seconds..... ...and then I change back to make sure that they are still on their feet.... ..... pathetic really.. So, ...I didn´t actually SEE S&J in Europeans.... only bits and pieces... but I have seen the performances, like, a hundred times afterwards. Imagine what it will be like in Worlds... I´ll be a wreck, ... ....S&J : You are no good for me!!! You ruin my nerves completely!!! ..but, somehow I love you for it /AnniS

A few questions from me, who (obviously) do not know much about skating: When an ice dance couple have to come up with a new FD, where is it most usual that they start? Do they pick the music/theme first or do they start by building around favourite/signature moves/lifts...? Do they start (like writers) with a begining and an end and then "fill in" the middle? Is there a general " how-to-do-it", that most couples follow, or do they all have their own strategies? How long does it take to learn a new FD? Is the length of a FD the same for juniors and seniors? Is there a lower age limit for ice dance couples? Could two ten year olds compete, or do they have to be a certain age to do lifts? Are all sorts of music allowed? ...my head is full of questions....

I'll start to answer... I'd guess most couples choose their music first but probably there's an exception to every rule. They'd have to like it to train to it over & over & over... With code of points judging system, couples have to make all the required elements fit into the music bearing in mind certain elements have time limits. Look up the ISU website for the rules! Good luck with that!

Well I like the idea of the Maori Dance, but I was thinking about something italian (we have a lot of traditional dance-not only tarantella!!! ) and this would make me feel a little patriotic, even if I support a Scottish couple. ;D And speaking of Scotland and kilt, Melanie do you now if it is a "Kerr Clan Tartan"? I thought so because of the green and red, but I would swear I saw a hint of yellow that is not present on my explaining table. (sorry for the OT)
