the new information in here is: - the intro is like, that japanese people love Tomas, that he has his biggest fanclub there and that he once said that some Japanese save all year to travel around the world to support him. - after SA he was like half-dead for about a week, wasn't even hungry and didn't do anything. - daddy tested him for H1N1 but he didn't have it. - he started training again now 12 days ago - his coaching thought about wether or not Tomas should take part in GPF after being so sick, but eventually they let him take the decision. Mrs. Koprivova says that the virus weakened him, and she was/is worried about what the long trip will do to him. - Tomas had a bit of doubt himself, but in the end he wanted to go. He felt much worse in the USA. Right now it just depends how he will endure everything physically. He doesn't wanna make his programs easier or smthing. - Mrs. Koprivova says Tomas is excited and wants to do well

Disheartening freeskate. Strange that he skated better at SA when he was ill, he's probably feeling off physically and worrying about that too much.
He'll physically be in better shape before Euros and Olys, for sure, but ideally he should have had some positive experiences this fall (TEB was a good start, but everything after...) to boost his confidence and become more 'automatic'. Not to mention developing his reputation with the judges, which unfairly affects PCS score.
I am going to be controversial (although this has been said on other forums a lot) and say that if after Olys, if he wants to ever become dominant and win convincingly on a regular basis, he should make some coaching changes. At least spend summers with someone outside for a second opinion, if not change everything. Every other man at the GPF has made major coaching changes in recent years except for Evan, who already has a coach with a good reputation for preparing skaters mentally. I'm sure he has great relationships with his current team, but maybe he needs to be put in a new 'uncomfortable' situation to get his butt kicked a little and develop a new approach.

it said in Czech press he had a cold and again didn't feel so well... www.sportovninoviny.cz/zpravy/verner-byl-ve-finale-grand-prix-v-tokiu-sesty/410794some parts: Tomas: "I overestimated my own abilities" he had some health problems in the last few weeks, had a cold Tomas: "I forgot how a competition is something completely different than training. On ice in Oberstdorf I felt allright, and I thought that I could do it here, but the reality was different" Tomas on the SP: "I couldn't have started better, and then I started to concentrate so I wouldn't make any unneccessary mistakes, because I didn't really feel good in the warm up. Also during the whole competition, or maybe it was because I made 2 big mistakes and lost about 15 points with that" I was worried already before wether or not it would be a good idea, and I was leaning towards not a good idea. Guess I was right... but OK, reality is he went... and Tomas GET HEALTHY AND FIT YOU FREAK! xoxoxo

I have some quick quotes from GPF:
(on the performance) I think I have overestimated my strenght and thought that I can do it. After Skate America I was really weak (sick with the flu). When I came back it was quite okay, I skated parts of my program. But competitions are always a little bit different than practice sessions. And that is, what I underestimated. I think this competition was just too much for me. And I'm a little bit sad that I came here and did not let Michal Brezina skate instead, because he most likely could have performed better than me. I will focus now on training again, and that it will become much better again. (on falling on the triple lutz) I focused very much on the triple axel then wanted to push towards the lut but it didn't get any speed, which than lead to the fall. (and after) I though that if I get along with Lutz, I would get through somehow. But it didn't work out. I know at least now that I can jump a quad in a competition no matter how I feel. That is good. I can also do it in a free program, when I miss the first jump. That is a positive thing for me. The negative thing is that figure skating is not just a beautiful sport, but you also need energy and you need the condition. That is something I have to learn.

I remember when I had the flu a handful of years back, it took me forever to get my energy back and I was only practicing--not competing--for a couple months. I cannot imagine a. competing with it or b. competing shortly thereafter--and Tomas did BOTH!! I give him a lot of credit for going out there and trying.
