I only disagree because I know that Meryl & Charlie's team did research on the type of music they chose and it has apparently gone over well even in India (I am sure there are a fair amount of people there that could disagree too). I totally agree that Oksana and Max are great skaters and I think they should have chosen something a bit more lighthearted and more fitting for their personality. The thing that bothers me about the aboriginal theme is that it looks gimmicky and not authentic. At least the change in costumes toned that down. I just feel like they aren't able to be seen as the skaters they are as a result. I contrast them with Kim & Brent and see something completely different. They harnessed the aboriginal theme more effectively, IMO. I think that's a touchy choice for an OD.

The feed on my computer skipped during the twizzles, so I can pretend I didn't see them. I enjoyed the program a lot and it looked like a lot of hard work was put into it since I saw it performed last. Great job, guys! Oh my gosh I just totally sighed a breath of relief after Jana & Sergei! I know s&j wanted to be higher, but I'm proud that even with mistakes they are able to maintain their position. Thought you guys might enjoy what both my skating AND non-skating friends posted on FB. Immediate influx of comments that only happens with the best of skaters. >Linkin park and ice dancing= frigging sweeeet!!! >>Haha, yeah, I thought so too >>>Yeah that was pretty awesome >Woah Kerr & Kerr's free dance is amazing! >>LOVE them!! >That's not something you see every day!!!!! WOW! >HA...it IS possible to skate to Linkin' Park... >>You're awed at the music? How about at that fact that she lifted him!!!!!!!!!! >Kerr and Kerr skating to Linkin Park!! >>cool >>Yes and i love that song !!

Glad that they finished in 8th. Love John's suggestion about banning twizzles! lol
Unlike some on here, I am pleased that Virtue and Moir got the gold. I think their FD is beautiful!
Vive la difference ...

Vive la difference ... Just to clarify, I would have liked to see S & J higher, but I was worried that they would have finished below K/N ...

The podium was so predictable, I wish Ladbrokes had odds on it.

New to your board, but would like to say that my 2 daughters (5/7) were in attendance of the Ice Dance finals in Vancouver tonight. When I asked them what their favourite part was, they said it was when 'the girl lifted the boy'. They really enjoyed the Kerr performance and I know it will stick with them for a long time. Thanks! (3 Canadians)

Welcome to the board and Absolute Skating, marchkg! When I asked them what their favourite part was, they said it was when 'the girl lifted the boy'. I love that part too, but in the name of fairness Faiella/Scali also had a "boy lift" although it looked totally different. It's things like that that set the teams apart and make their programs memorable. John and Sinead did really well in the free dance and in the whole competition. I'm sorry they didn't medal but there aren't enough medals to go around to everyone who deserves them! I hope we'll see the Kerrs in Turin next month

Hey !.I never said I did not want Virtue & Moir to win the gold, I think over the 3 rounds they deserved it. It's Davis & White I don't like. Are you telling me that their free dance was the 2nd best last night?. Do you remember the Phantom Of The Opera routine that Drobiazko & Vanagas had in 2006?. That's how you skate to that music. Soft, gentle, emotional. Davis & White were so fast I barely had a chance to enjoy anything they did. Chris Howarth on Eurosport said it was one of the greatest free dance routines of all time. NO WAY I think both Belbin & Agosto & Faella & Scalli were better. Why are the judges going for speed over everything else?. I enjoy dance, not gymnastics on ice !. Poor Delobel & Schoenfelder. I liked their free dance, but did they honestly think that would win them an Olympic gold medal?. I will miss them though. John & Sinead skated really well. A pity about the twizzles. But I enjoyed it.

As a new member I was just wanting to thank Sinead and John Kerr. I watch the Ice Dance portion of the Olympics the last few nights and was just drawn in to the two of you. I loved the choice of music for the Free portion. I felt like it was so much better than all the "classic" music that most skaters use. I also thought the lift of John was a bit unexpected, bold, clever and beautiful. The two of you gained a new fan with your skating. I have watched the Olympics since the late sixty's(yes, I'm showing my age) and while I'm not a judge, I felt that the routine that the two of you skated was perhaps the best. I will be honest, I felt like the Gold was already awarded the night before and that's why I didn't watch the last group skate. Boy, was I glad to catch the two of you though. Good luck in the future, and hope to see you again.
A new Fan!!!!!

Anyone staying up to watch the ladies short programe tonight?. It should be intersting. Asada & Kim are skating back to back. My heart goes out to Joannie Rochette. I wish her well. My favourites are Miki Ando & Sarah Meier. Rachel Flatt was heavily favoured at the Worlds last year, it will be interesting to see where she places. I think Kostner & Lipisto have a hard job to get in the top 6.

Wheee, welcome new fans and message board posters! This might be the last season of S&J competitively speaking. So enjoy while you can. I'm sure (I hope) they'll be at worlds, and after that, well, we just have to wait and see what they decide. They will tell us here, so watch out for that! Do they still have professional competitions? I'm sure they'd make plenty money making shows with Stephane. I like V&M's FD, knew they'd win gold, (had a bet on with Steve about the podium and got it spot on) but don't understand the points differential. I really felt for John and the twizzles. Shouldn't there be a facebook group 'Ban the tweezles'? I almost prefer the old way - of watching a free dance created for the music (thinking Matrix) rather than fitting compulsory elements in. After worlds (or S&J's retirement) I'm never watching ice dance again!

After worlds (or S&J's retirement) I'm never watching ice dance again! In all seriousness, I'm not sure that ice dancing will be bearable without Sinead and John! We have always depended upon Sinead and John to come up with something a little different to what you may usually expect and I believe that there is no one else like them. It is easy to sit through countless free and original dances at competitions like the Olympics and Worlds in the knowledge that Sinead and John will come on at some point and reawaken my senses with an uber cool performance. They bring a remarkable freshness to a sport which has seemed to me to be mostly associated with classical choices of music. Ice dancing just won't be the same following their retirement....
