Yes, finally!! I'm back in Switzerland and I saw Stéphane yesterday, so you finally get some fresh news. Stéphane is doing great, he's in a good shape and in a great mood! I was SO happy to see him like that (especially compared to how things were last September). He skated at a little exhibition organized by one of his sponsors, he skated to "you're beautiful" with soooooo much pleasure, a big smile on his face all the time - well, except when he was singing! LOL He did a few mistakes on the jumps, but well, I guess it was alright. He's been working hard all summer and his programs are ready. I haven't seen them yet, so I can't say anything about them. I just know that he's not going to do a second LP like he had "planned" after Moscow. He told me his new LP is difficult enough and he needs to work on it a lot, so that he can't waste time and energy on another program. He had just come back from a few days in Torino, where he trained with the Italian team, and he's going back on Saturday for the show. So well, he's busy busy busy, I don't know how he can manage all he has to do. And competitions haven't even started...

Hi Céline! Welcome back! Many thanks for the good news, and also for the TSR link. It's great to hear and see Stéphane again! He does sound so calm and serene... just amazing! I am so looking forward to seeing his new programmes! Any idea what the commentator meant when he said that Stéphane still needs to fulfill the Swiss Olympics criteria in order to qualify for the Olympics?!? Or did I misunderstand? (if the world champion doesn't automatically qualify, who does?....)

Nobody "automatically qualifies". All athletes have to fulfill the criterias set by their national Olympic committees. So Stéphane, like Jamal, has to fulfill the Swiss Olympic criterias. One is to finish in the top 12 (I think) at Euros, and the other is to score a total of 160 points (SP+LP) at a competition before the Olys - Stéphane's goal is to score 160 points for JUST the LP. There are some other "details", but this is basically what they have to do. Those of course shouldn't be a problem for Stéphane, now I really really really hope that Jamal will make it too!! There are also criterias of this kind for Sarah, but I don't remember how many points she needs to score.

www.swissolympic.ch/Resourceimage.aspx?raid=6941Total points for Sarah is 120 points (160 for Stéphane and Jamal)...Considering that this season (I mean the 05-06 preparation), like Stéphane, she was able for the first time since many years to train and skate without having to deal with injuries, it should be ok...She scored 129.63 points at Europeans and 142.11 (total Short plus Free, without quali) at Worlds, so it shouldn't be that hard for her... Along with the total of points, they've got (Stéph, Sarah and Jamal) either to finish in the top eight at a Grand Prix (and in the first two thirds of the field) or to finish in the top 12 at Euros in Lyon (and in the first third of the field). But if they're competing in two Grand Prix (all 3 are), I dunno if they have to be in the first 8 at BOTH competitions or if just one result in the top 8 in one Grand Prix is enough... Overall, these criterias will be easy to fullfill for Stéphane, not that hard for Sarah but tough for Jamal...Jamal will struggle to be in the top eight in his Grand Prix considering the strong field and his recent inujury...But of course this is purely theory, I really wish he'll be able to fullfill his criterias in the fall already...But I think he's got more chances to make the top 12 at Euros...But even with this, he was 11th at Euros but only the 14th european at Worlds But don't consider these criterias as ultimate criterias...in 2002 Sarah didn't fullfill her criterias and she still went to SLC...So we never know

Thanks for the link! Even though I don't understand a word ... it was nice to see Stéphane again ;D I guess the criterias should be OK for Stéphane, won't they? And I wish Jamal to be succesfull too, I'd like to se him at Olys!
