OD Review of Top 3 CouplesThe penultimate group OMG! The electricity in the air when the top 3 skated consecutively, once again, I commend the Judges, because it was totally correct. Even though the DelSchoes have stretched their lead, the battle is really for the Gold between them and the Russians - both couples were both technically and artistically way ahead of the Bulgarians - and IMO there was absolutely no controversy with the scores and placements. I think that DenStav look off the pace to me in every way, technically they had errors, Maxim was off balance in the twizzles on the midline ss, and Albena later caught her blade on the barrier, and almost stumbled. Aesthetically, I can't see their costumes working at all. On the one hand she is wearing a dressy, stoned, sparkly costume, yet he is in a plain white T Shirt, looking tres casual....que? It looks odd to me. When the Duchesnays danced a lazy "Streetcar Named Desire" style Tango in 88, Paul wore an sweaty T Shirt, but Isabelle had a plain slip dress on to accompany him, so it looked matching. I found the Bulgarians just not Gold Medal winning material today. DelSchoes skated next, and as soon as they stepped onto the ice in haughty Argentine Tango character you could see the difference, the sharpness was there, it was a tour de force technically, sublime in every way, the beauty of their skating just makes you feel both breathless and serene. Their costumes were just soooooo much better than DenStav, he in a gorgeous, stylish, pin striped grey suit that was Haute Couture, she in a stunning long black dress, subtle yet effective. They both had an arrogance of style and presentation, innovative moves that we haven't seen before and kept it up right till the last pose. Deservedly overtook DenStav and opened a large gap. They looked so thrilled in the K&C, and it's such a pleasure at last to see their sublime skills being rewarded and being justifiably at the top. DomShabs followed, and OMG! Fabulous performance, staggering that they weren't a let down after the French. Again in terms of style, interpretation of the Argentine Tango, costume and performance, aswell as pure skating skills and choreography, it was on another level to DenStav. I thought they might win on Interpretation, but overall the technically slightly superior performance of the French won the day and extended their lead, with the Russians breaking away clearly in 2nd place. Oksana was transformed from a soft, elegant Ballroom Waltzer in the CD to a petulant Latin vixen, she physically looked different and took on the role fully in character the whole way through. Maxim played the part with such a masculine strength, it was wonderful to watch and would compare favourably to any Stage/theatre interpretation. He looked the part in another gorgeous suit with hair tied back. I thought their choreo was stunning, Sergei Petukhov was right on top form with this dance, and they didn't just skate, they danced with abandon, showing off innovative lifts and moves that were completely new to me. There was one stunningly effective move, where Maxim held a straight line balance lift with Oksana wrapped around him in a low position with his arms and hands in classic Tango pose, sooo effective and stylish! YAY! Such a pleasure to watch. What is this controversy about their elevation this season? They are a talented couple who have improved greatly, what I've seen so far in the CD and OD they are quite rightly in 2nd place, had the French not been perfect so far they could easily have been 1st, but I'm happy to see the lovely DelSchoes 1st - who deserves it more than they? I love them with all my heart. The top 2 today made me swoon and that's why I love Ice Dance with a passion.

Their 1st place OD: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyIVSdVWqeYhands above the head to support a lift is techincally illegal? i read the rule thing and its .....lift the person above the head that is illegal....right? i would've given their level 3 diagonal footwork a four....that was incredibly strong and had deep deep edges and sharp tuning and preciseness... their spin...isn't great as always....travels...they should turn it into a combo... each beat of that tango was beaten...that side by side step was spot on.... i love delobel and schoenfelder
