PARIS (AP)—Former ice dance world champion Isabelle Delobel is pregnant but still hopes to compete in the Vancouver Olympics.
The Frenchwoman said during a news conference Wednesday with coach Muriel Boucher-Zazoui that she is due in September. Delobel is single and didn’t identify the father.
She has been sidelined since December because of a right shoulder injury that required an operation. She and partner Olivier Schoenfelder missed this year’s world championships in Los Angeles.
Delobel and Schoenfelder had previously won their first three competitions of the season, including the Grand Prix final.
They took the ice dance title at last year’s worlds. Congratulations, Isabelle! Ioana

This is really surprising.  I'm sad because they are my favorite ice dancers and I loved to watch them but her life goes first. If she has to choose between the Olympic medal and the baby, ther's no question what is more important. Kind of sad for Olivier, he was working hard and the Olympic podium was very close. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. And who knows if they are really determined? Anyway, congratulations and lot's of happiness to Isabell and to both of them for brilliant career and everything they brought to skating. Still hope they will come back to the ice, at least for shows, although she's gonna be busy.  |

I'm torn between AWWWW and NOOOO!  Congratulations to Isa! Having a baby is one of life's greatest events - I wish her that everything goes well and everyone is healthy! And even though I will miss them if they eventually don't make it to competitions then, I am happy for her! But still hope to see them on ice soon  |

How are things with Isabelle and her baby? Any news yet?
Is it possible for her to come back in time for the Olys? ....Do you think she will/should come back, or focus on being a mother full time for a little while?
I would love to se them in Vancouver.... but a new baby is a new baby is a new baby......

Isa posted a new entry to their blog, you can find here: www.delobel-schoenfelder.fr/She writes that she and the baby are also well,they dont know the gender so it will be a surprise.With Oli they showed their programs to the federation which it liked very much,and she also writes she had holiday and that she will write again only if the baby has arrived! So it seems everything goes well AnniS, i also hope they will be in Vancouver!!They also plan to go to the last 2 GPs,but we will see! |
