Special thanks for the videos and photos from the show. I appreciate it so much, because you did this for us and it definitely took something from the pleasure to just watch him skating. And, I think, it wasn't posted here. Amazing photos from Silvia: www.photoya.de/en/gallery/art_on_ice_2012.html

Thank you reut but in my case don't worry I saw 2 shows, on saturday evening and sunday afternoon. On saturday I saw just On sunday I wanted to keep something for me and even I can see more detail with my camera zoom because I am short sighted. But it is true, I can't get the whole mood of the show when I take video. It was but still my pleasure.

Thanks everyone for posting pictures and videos I have a few videos which are only posted on the Art on Ice facebook page at the moment but I will upload them on youtube in the coming days, here is the main one: My Body Is a Cage from the Saturday afternoon show. It's nice we have a few angles and different videos. I tried to get more of the whole feel in, so didn't zoom in too much. Enjoy! www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoLV5dnx7-oTranslation of the intro: Sometimes I stand in the middle of the city between thousands of people, but I am alone. Nobody looks at me. Around me, all there is, is nothing. Scared, I look into myself, and even there, is nothing.

Thanks to everybody for sharing videos, photos and reports. The more I watch Stephane's "my body is a cage" the more it touches my soul: it is so pure and rich in emotions, so deep, ... but it worries me also. Stephane usually choses music and songtexts which reflect something of his inner life. So, does anybody know if Stephane talked about this choice of music, what it means to him? I more and more love this performance, but I am glad also he had chosen a second piece with almost the oposite mood.

There are some differences in the lyrics between the original version of The Arcade Fire, the cover versions of Peter Gabriel and Lambiel.
Here are the lyrics of MBIAC as they were used at AOI:
My Body Is A Cage
My body is a cage That keeps me from dancing with the one I love But my mind holds the key
I'm standing on a stage Of fear and self doubt It's a hollow play But they'll clap anyway
My body is a cage That keeps me from dancing with the one I love My mind holds the key
My mind holds the key My mind holds the key
I'm living in an age That calls darkness light Though my language is dead Still the shapes fill my head
I'm living in an age Whose name I don't know Though the fear keeps me moving Still my heart beats so slow
- - -
My body is a ... My body is a ... is a... is a... is a... is a... is a... My body is a cage My body is a cage
- - - - - - -
I'm living in an age And realize I am dancing with the one I love But my mind holds the key
You're standing next to me My mind holds the key
Set my spirit free Set my spirit free Set my body free Set my body free Set my body free free

Thank you, schnaddel, this is interesting. It would be good to know more from Stephane about this performance, the idea to put it together. I don't know if he will skate this program beyond AOI, usually he doesn't, maybe he is not allowed to use the recorded music from the show, he would have to take an original version but it is very different, the program would have to be reworked so likely we will not see it again. Please say more elanor! I love your opinions! I don't really know what to say more than people already wrote about the program. It is one of my favorite Stephane's performances. It had big direct emotional impact on me which doesn't happen very often even with Steph's programs because I'm more reflective type of person, watch art in aestethic, contemplative way rather than crying over it, I don't like melodrama, programs like Un Giorno Per Noi are not for me, even Poeta is a bit overdone for me. But this performance really moved me, it was beautiful, authentic and meaningful with all projected emotions in it. It's probably true there is nothing more powerful than simplicity, when the artists are authentic. It is partially the music, based on few strong repeated phrases, good soul is very spiritual and the orchestra with subtle piano and saxophone solo made it quite special, more gentle and touching. I felt all performers were in wonderful unison with skating and the program, it happens rarely with live signer, usuallly they peform apart projecting themselves and doing their own job, it takes openess and humility to get out of themsewlves and listen to the others, maybe because they had time and these artists aren't that famous they could work together and create something unique with complete meaning. The light effects were great too and even more evocative, with that big amount of white light around the piano and Stephane skating on the edge of it and then almost into it but not quite. It was simple but very effective. Then , maybe it's just my own illusion but it seems Stephane's skating is twice as good and inspired with orchestra, it's wonderful how he responds and ajdusts to it so naturally, everything becomes more alive and breathing with air. I loved the dinamics of the program, how it develops in unpredicted way, from slow to fast to stop and again, with lots of broken lines but also open gestures and finally everything relaxes into open space, very uplifting but also gentle, without umphs with quiet final accords, that's how great dramaturgy is done, this is good choreography that serves the music and the message without special effects. Stephane dosen't skate in such style often (maybe when he skated to Tosca but it didn't have that pronounced choreography), it brings out some of his great qualities that usually are not that visible. The simple and strong, clear moves like high prolonged notes (pure moves as he calls it when talking about Shizuka skating) rather than many nuances. Maybe that's too much of my random personal impressions on the program but you can just ignore it. Thank you everybody for the videos, they are great so I have something to muse about.

Thank you elanor, i enjoyed your sayings! Your thoughts are interesting and you express them so well! I had many similar thoughts and feelings while i watched My Body is a Cage. It's very inspired program, it's such a concentrated and dramatic thing. I really hope he does skate it more as he skated Bring me to Life last year.
