Great to know! thanks! I guess that Tell + Carmen + Chorus Line + NMQP will be worth that lot of waiting (NMQP is one of the programs that I've never seen live and wish I did! it was amazing!)

It's some days since the "cup of professionals" in Moscow. I read about it on "lambiel-ru" with the help of some online translator. It does not translate the comments, unfortunately. But I would appreciate so much to know especially about "Toreador", how it was, did it change since Opera on ice? Maybe somebody can tell here, just in a few words. That would be GREAT ! Stephane apparently has been doing very well and got so much support from "lambiel-ru" ladies, that's WONDERFUL!

I didn't know people here were waiting for updates from "Professionals Cup"! I will try to summarize the stories people wrote a bit later today then.

OK, I will write a few sentences now. And if I have time (and see any interest to it here) I might also translate some quotes from some reports. A bit more about the project itself. As you probably know, Ilia Averbukh for many years already has this "skating with celebrities" show. Actually it wasn't always "with celebrities", there were different variations of it (for example, you can read about it more in my interview with Peter Tchernyshev on AS). Anyways, Ilia decided to try something else again. He wanted to make some kind of "competition of professional skaters", most of the skaters are those who usually take part in all his projects. But he also invited some more foreign skaters, including Stephane and Sarah. Stephane told me they got the list of the rules and had to prepare three different programs: short program, long program and "art" program + exhibition. He thought first three will go for the team competition, but in the end it was divided a bit differently. The first day was for SP and LP and then results for teams were announced. And then, next day there was an individual competition with third program + gala. As you know already, for SP Stephane skated "Tell" and for LP he chose "Carmen". He said, he tried to choose programs which suited better to the rules they sent him. He also mentioned that it looked like nobody cared about those rules in the end... For "art" program he took "Ne me quitte pas". And "A Chorus Line" was for the exhibition. They recorded the show in two days (veeeeery long days of 14-hour shootings), they will broadcast it in January, 4 episodes (one program per episode), once a week. I will update you about the dates and will try to find some streams. It will be broadcast on Russian Channel One. This show and its cast was kind of secret. We learnt about it only a few days before the shootings, but around 10 people from lambiel_ru were able to come and see the show in the end, for one or for both days. They all were exhausted but very-very happy. All of them said that Stephane was divine, perfect, far better than anyone else there. Exceptional, brilliant... They were not sitting together, because people responsible for extras were deciding who will sit where. So sometimes they were sitting in the middle of the crowd which had no idea about skating in general and about Stephane (they just came to work and get their money). They say people who are far from skating were competely under Stephane's spell, were cheering for him, after his first performance were waiting only for him, shouting for him and asking questions about him. So our girls told more about Stephane, explained who he was, wrote down his name so that they will be able to check more videos at home. For example, just one of the stories. Some of the celebrities who took part in Ilia's show also watched this competition, just came by to watch some skating. And there was one actress who came to watch for a bit and already wanted to leave. But everybody around (her friends from the project and skaters) told her: "No, you definitely should stay to see Lambiel". She had no idea who he was, but people around were very persuasive and she stayed. After his performance she was standing on her feet, clapping, absolutely excited.

Thaaaaaank you, reut, for report so quickly. It's a pleasure to read (google-translate sometimes is confusing). I did not dare to ask for a report before as I understood that the whole event was exhausting for those who participated … and I was aware that it might mean more work especially for you again, reut. I hope I'm not the only one eager the learn even more (maybe)!

Very interesting and positive report!! Thank you so much, reut I am sure, Stéphane adapted to the rules as much as could.. I am happy he has success between professionals too and i like to read about it:) Ladies from lambiel_ru - very good, that you brought information about Stéphane and his art to new people, Stéphane makes people happy, the more the better (It was a year ago, when Stéphane skated in my country.. nice memories..)

I will try to translate some more reports and impressions later, they all were very poetic, but the main meaning was as I already summarized, that Stephane was just exceptional. Ooops, noticed only now that we're still in "Autumn news", while we're at the end of December already.

Wow, amazing photos, I didn't see them! Thank you very much for the link. Direct links to the galleries: poplavski.gallery.ru/watch?a=bqNa-lgYZpoplavski.gallery.ru/watch?a=bqNa-lhiEAnd here are some quotes as I promised earlier: * For "Tell" he got 6.0 from all the judges and standing ovation, both from the audience and judges. We could see that he was really preparing for this competition seriously, all his elements were perfect. The public didn't know him so they didn't really cheered for him when he started, but there were more and more applause as the program went on. The woman sitting near me shouted: "WOW, I love it!". They were shouting and applauding him for a very long time, standing for him. After that everybody around was talking only about him and his program. When the time of the second program ("Carmen") came they already waited for him and cheered much louder. It was late already, people were tired, just recently they were told to clap louder, but they were tired and sleepy. And here, when Stephane came on the ice, where did they find the strength again? I was so proud for him! Once again shouts "Bravo!", "The best program!" and standing ovation. * "Tell" was performed brilliantly. He was the first skater who got standing ovation. Tarasova was the first to stand for him too. Judges told him lots of complements, said they he is in perfect shape. "Carmen" was perfect too. Judges said that he is a genius. That we need more of this kind of competitions so that people will see such geniuses as Stephane more after they retire. * I'm very impressed by Stephane's love and appreciation for his fans. He noticed Swiss flags at once and after "Carmen" he came to his fans to kiss them. * After Ne me quitte pas the whole studio was standing and nobody wanted to sit down. Stephane had to go on the ice again and to perform a spin as an encore. After that the audience didn't want to sit down even more. He got the best reaction from the crowd and he looked very happy. * During the first day the extras didn't know who he was, but during the second day they were already waiting only for him: "Now.. now this Frenchman will perform!" - "He is Swiss!" we corrected them. * The second day they put us on the second row, it was the first time I was sitting so close to the ice. And the only thought I had all that time: "I will see Ne me quitte pas SO CLOSE!" It was so beautiful that I cried. * He turned my soul upside down with his Ne me quitte pas* Extras who were sitting near us were really interested to know more. We explained to them who was this boy. We were even asked to write down his name for them. This was the most pleasing, that he got such response from the public which knew nothing about him. When we were waiting to enter the studio one woman was talking about the previous day and that for her there was only ONE SKATER there, and she was trying to pronounce Stephane's name correctly. Women who were sitting near us asked us to give them our Swiss flag to wave to him. * After Ne me quitte pas Tarasova said that when she watched this program all her life passed in her mind. And she stood up to thank Stephane and in appreciation of his talent. * To tell the truth I didn't think such thing can happen. It was unreal. Lambiel succeeded in one day to keep on toes all those people who never saw any skating in their life except "Ice age" and don't know any skater except Navka, don't care about skating at all and come to get some money. And this is the biggest part of the extras coming. Old women who usually don't care which program they record, who come just for money, were almost crying because of him and trying to learn more about this wonder boy. One of those women while we were waiting to enter the second day was standing with a big rose and telling how she went to the shop in the morning to buy this flower FOR HIM. Everybody was waiting impatiently for his performance. After Ne me quitte pas which he skated till the last movement, the last breath I thought the ceiling will fall down. You can't imagine what was going on there at that moment. You should understand that Stephane's Russian fans came to the studio and were sitting there for 14(!!) hours just to see him on the ice. It was very hard, very exhausting, lights were blinding, they had to clap when they were told to and to smile when they were told to. They also had to take days off from work to come. But all this doesn't matter, all of them were absolutely happy from how Stephane performed in those two days. The level of excitement I saw in their stories was overwhelming, really. I do hope we'll be able to feel that from what we see on TV too. Can't wait to see. I was told it will be broadcast after Russian winter holidays (New Year and Orthodox Christmas).

Oh, thank you VERY MUCH, reut, for translating the quotes (and thank you, of course, to the ladies who wrote and share them) . So many touching little stories, so nice to read! I am glad to read this, glad for Stephane, he can be so proud (as I am/we are proud of him), and I am glad for the lambiel-ru-ladies who could attend and enjoy (despite the tiering circumstances). As far as I know, Mrs Tarasova said nice things about Stephane already during his competitive career, but WHAT a beautiful feedback when she says that NMQP made her see her life pass in her mind. I believe that for such emotions, Stephane loves to skate (so beautifully). I perfectly agree when judges say that there should be more of such kind of competitions, so that retired skaters might be seen more often. (Wonder if retired skaters, Stephane, would like this too?). I would love it, but easy and without rules, as Stephane once said. Did I understand right: it seems that most of the spectators did not really come because they wanted to see the skaters and the show, but they were payed for clapping … for the TV? Sounds strange, but well, it made new people maybe like skating … and Stephane .
Besides, concerning the photos: I like so much the 'podium-scene' ones: it's like a little story, it looks as if Alexei pushed Steph to be with him on the first podium. So nice. Two of my all time favorites together .

I'm glad you liked it, jomeku. Hope more people will read that too. To tell the truth even me, I was touched anew when I was translating this. I'm sure Stephane would love to take part in such competitions, he mentioned this a few times. But me personally I'd prefer those to be more like actual competitions. With "normal" audience, accreditations , press conferences. And formal, well defined rules. Here it was more of a show and the rules and judging were rather weird. And the moment on photos which touched you was actually a bit more embarrassing and less nice in reality. I wasn't sure I should spoil you the show with these details, but on the other hand it's not a secret. And probably you should know how things worked there. As I mentioned before the first day (first two programs) it was the competition between Team Russia and Team World. And the second day (third program) it was an individual competition. These programs will be broadcast before the Olympic Games in Sochi, towards the Games. And though it was kind of "competition" and untold rule was the Russians should win. This indeed happened with teams (though Stephane got the best marks, but overall his team lost). Second day it was an individual competition between Stephane and Alexei. Alexei was skating first. He had a very nice program, they say, very touching, he got all 6.0. And then comes Stephane and skates his mind-blowing Ne me quitte pas. Objectively he was better, but politically Russians had to win in all disciplines. So one of the judges (Tchaikovskaya) gives Stephane 5.9 for the second mark (the artistry! for THIS program!), giving very lame excuse why she did that, so that he'll lose... The audience went wild when they heard the marks because it was really-really unfair. Averbukh tried to fix the situation and tried to persuade Tchaikovskaya to change her marks, he even tried to add his own marks to the judges'... The situation was really not pleasant. Alexei tried to fix that in his own way too as you saw on the photos. But to tell the truth it just made things worse... I have no idea what they will show on TV and how they will cut all this. Yes, you understood right that most of the spectators come to get paid. For all the TV programs they need the audience to sit in the studio. And there are people who earn money this way. There are people who coordinate this, you can call them and come to sit in the audience. It is rather hard work to tell the truth.

Thank you, reut, for further informations. What you write about, well, beforehand decided outcome obviously, sounds a bit weird. It means it was more of a 'show-time' than competition then, and maybe it would have been better if from the beginning on it had been declared as such to the participants. Stephane takes seriously what is said to him (I think), so it must have been strange, maybe a bit disappointing for him, at least in the first moment. But never-the-less, I hope he (and all the others), realized soon what it actually was all about and enjoyed it anyway. He certainly heard the positive reactions of the audience and other judges, and that, I think, was the best reason to be proud of. And Yags reaction was sweet, anyway .
Maybe, after all this, it makes Ilia Averbuch (or somebody else) think of organizing 'real' professional competition in the future? Would be great (with well defined, but not too many rules (the latter Steph wouldn't like … he had it during years ). And, as you said, with "normal" audience, press conference etc.
