Thanks for all the recent translations! I've been meaning to ask you guys something for awhile now - since most of you aren't native English speakers, do you think it would be helpful to have a thread dedicated to questions and discussions about English? It would be under "Transitions Time", since it's not specifically about Stéphane or skating. I'd ask other native and fluent English speakers to help, too - even those Brits that speak so differently from me. I thought of this because I often read posts where people apologize for their lack of English skills, or ask for feedback on their translations into English. Also, I see the same mistakes over and over again. (The one that's been driving me crazy lately is mistaking "pain" with "pains" - what Stéphane has been experiencing is pain, without the "s".) Please let me know if you would be interested in something like this. I may not be able to speak French or German, but I'm really good at English, and would be happy to help out in this way. sm

No, please. DQ, please. I hope you don't mean what I think it could possibly mean. If that is, I beg of you to change your mind. Please.
A very close friend of mine, a linguistic scholar teaching at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world at the time (fluent in 7 languages then, and now a couple more too), once said something very interesting to me -- that as language is always changing and evolving, there is no really wrong or right way to express oneself. A provocative statement, indeed. He went into it in great detail why that is so, quoting various authorities, Noam Chomsky among them, and also observed how the lingua franca usage of the English language is in a state of great flux in this global age, of the internet.
I am incredibly grateful for any and all translations. I find the grammatical errors charming, and even extra flavorful. Who is without faults with regard to this online, anyway? No no. Please. I hope you didn't mean to say what it sounded like you said. If you didn't, I am happy to have expressed my tremendous appreciation once more.

swissmiss it'd be really useful for me, I've started again my english lessons after 5 years, and I would find it great, because I discovered in a recent lesson, that I always say "I'm not agree" when the correct thing is "I don't agree" And I don't translate too much, only sometimes italian articles or vids when a native italian can't do it, but I always have huge problems during the translations. Digitus quintus, I'm sure swissmiss just wanna help us, the no native speakers. Pointing mistakes is a good way of learning languages, don't be affectable we always appreciate your translations and the other great translations of the other members of this forum

I'm sure swissmiss just wanna help us, the no native speakers. Pointing mistakes is a good way of learning languages I agree, DQ and Freefall. When I read Swissmiss's offer to help in this way, I was taken aback by the scope of her commitment, because it is such an ambitious undertaking. Free lessons!!! Membership has its privileges and this is quite a generous offer, one I didn't even think of offering myself, although I've taught English writing lab and regular English composition to students from all over the globe, as well as to native speakers. Folks, this is a great commitment she has made, and I can only respect her passion and dedication, and the spirit of generosity behind the offer. That said, whether you decide to take her up on the offer or not, I sure do hope all the translators keep them coming. They are my lifeline. You know how much coverage he gets in this good old U.S. of A? Day after day I put "Lambiel" into the google news, and am sorely disappointed. American media isn't covering FS at the moment, not even our own skaters, and the English language items are mostly from the Canadian media, with a very heavy emphasis on the Canadians. Please have a heart. Please. It is crucial for many of us out here in the wilderness that a resource be available on a frequent basis, as every day is like a month for Stephane and his fans, in this short short season of his. Only 2 weeks to Europeans! What a wild ride this adventure is. I beg on my knees to please keep them coming. -- S4, parched out in the wilderness

swissmiss it'd be really useful for me ... ....I'm sure swissmiss just wanna help us, the no native speakers. Pointing mistakes is a good way of learning languages, don't be affectable we always appreciate your translations and the other great translations of the other members of this forum I like to read posts from native speakers as this is already a good chance to improve my own english. Having a person who is capable and willing to pic up and explaining those language problems in a nice and sensitive way, is even more helpful! Given to this, I would appreciate a special thread in Transition Time I know my english is not the best,, so I would be thankful for the possiblity to have the chance to loose at least some of my usually made mistakes. ,

Thanks for all the translations! It was very interesting to read. Wish I had more time for it! I have some now as it's still partly "holidays time".
I'd be only glad if my mistakes were corrected - this way I'll remember right variant for sure and will use it in the future)

Listen and Watch"Running up that hill" by Placebo I could listen to 100 times. Music gives me enough strength to claim any mountain. Yay, a Placebo fan too! He is too perfect for words. I think La Traviata is just the music that would motivate, inspire, and strengthen him. -- S4, back to reading

Thank you for reminding me about this song, Sally While working on that translation I intended to find it, but then I completely forgot about it . I've just found it and listened - there is something really hypnotizing about it . One more proof for me that I should trust Stephane's music choice - even if firstly it doesn't sound inspiring to me at all like La Traviata - I am almost sure, I'll like the program despite all my prejudices . As usual.

Placebo rocks! Yay, Stephan. La Traviata, Stephane will make it work for him! It's so right for the skater he has become. Let's continue over at the "program" thread. -- S4

As usual. Yes, this song is wonderful, one of the best songs written last 30 years. I somehow missed that Stephane likes it so much and I love it too. Probably it sounds obnoxious I don't even know Placebo (I'm too old ) but Kate Bush who wrote it is a singing goddess and amazing artist. And Traviata is very inspiring music, indeed, it has the same free spirit and passion as sally beautifully said. Can't wait to see the program. But it requires a lot of emotional energy so I worry a bit about Steph's condition..

LOL Elanor, you couldn't sound obnoxious if you tried. I am just DYING to see the new program. Dying. Dying!!!! Stephane's condition ... sigh, alas. I am just counting on his judgment not to fail here. He repeats over and over that he is very in tune with his body. I must believe that. I have to believe he knows what he's doing. Stephane, your body is our temple. Please take care. -- S4

It would be great to learn the present-day English better, and I sincerely appreciate your offer! Too emotional myself, I often do mistakes writing online and blame myself afterwards , and try to correct if there's time. But without native speakers as consultants it is quite difficult to correct oneself. So, once again - my great support to Swissmiss' wonderful idea! I hope to see all of you soon in Transition Time block of threads!

The non-native English speakers have spoken, and it seems to me that they embrace the " wonderful idea" in the spirit that it was meant. I think it is an inspired idea, given the unmistakably global feel of this village of motley crew. And with the Winter Olympics so near, what could be more timely and appropriate? I will help out too. So ... how to get to Swissmiss Street? (Pardon my play on "Sesame Street". Too irresistible. ) Translation from the S4-ism: Where can this fabulous thread be found? -- S4, yet another non-native English speaker
