Thanks for all the recent translations! I've been meaning to ask you guys something for awhile now - since most of you aren't native English speakers, do you think it would be helpful to have a thread dedicated to questions and discussions about English? It would be under "Transitions Time", since it's not specifically about Stéphane or skating. I'd ask other native and fluent English speakers to help, too - even those Brits that speak so differently from me. I thought of this because I often read posts where people apologize for their lack of English skills, or ask for feedback on their translations into English. Also, I see the same mistakes over and over again. (The one that's been driving me crazy lately is mistaking "pain" with "pains" - what Stéphane has been experiencing is pain, without the "s".) Please let me know if you would be interested in something like this. I may not be able to speak French or German, but I'm really good at English, and would be happy to help out in this way. sm Also, I see the same mistakes over and over again. (The one that's been driving me crazy lately is mistaking "pain" with "pains" - what Stéphane has been experiencing is pain, without the "s".) I won't drive you crazy anymore. No, please. DQ, please. I hope you don't mean what I think it could possibly mean. If that is, I beg of you to change your mind. Please. I won't drive you crazy anymore. +1 I believe Digitus Quintus was acknowledging Swissmiss's point about pain/pains, and not actually stating in fact what else it "could possibly mean" as I pointed out. This goes to illustrate how tricky communication can be, and how much trickier it is to do it online, silent and motionless. Add to this the language differences among us merry bunch and you can possibly have miscommunications. I didn't help the matter by overreacting to the imagined possibility of DQ meaning it the other way. But we can each try to avoid it as best we can, and try to hear each other in a mild tone of voice, and give each other the benefit of the doubt. I think an extra dose of patience and understanding is a necessity, given how we come from so many different places and who we are all here for. He inspired us all to come here. What does he say over and over? He wants everyone to treat each other more kindly. There is a reason that Stephane's fans are SO diverse and SO international. He is a mensch of global proportion. -- S4

Language can be really tricky as you can see with this video, which happens to be my all time favorite Stephane youtube montage title, so far. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4N_YjWb41AA beautiful young songstress uploaded it, with no dire consequences for Stephane yet from any ISU or IOC officials, that I am aware of, that is. -- S4

I am sorry, Sally, but I can't hear the sound in this video - it was removed because of some copyright rules. Could you please upload this montage on mediafire or at least write here the title of the song which was used there, so I could find it by myself and combine with the video?

LOL Freefall! I am something of an illiterate when it comes to tech stuff. I used to be able to download youtube videos at a site and replay them with FLV player a couple of years ago, but it doesn't seem to work now, so I've no idea what else to do. I am not at all familiar with mediafire, but I mean to get around to familiarizing myself with it eventually. All this is going way over my little head.
As for the title of the song she used there, I have no idea. You could contact the uploader and find out, perhaps. She is obviously a fan of Stephane's, and from what I could tell by visiting her youtube channel, she seems like a real sweetheart. If I were Stephane, I'd ask her out to tea or something.
I just thought the title of the montage was fun. ;D When I first came across it, I almost ruined my keyboard with coffee.

Oh, you meant the title - I didn't even look at it because I was focused on the video . Yeah, it's funny .

Thanks for the feedback about the proposed "Help with English" thread. I'll start it when I get back from Hong Kong, where I've been having trouble with the local language - not Cantonese, but British English. I have to take a lift (not an elevator) to get to the first floor, which I've always called the second floor. The mechanics use spanners, not wrenches. Signs tell drivers to give way, not yield. And don't get me started on the spelling. To clarify, I don't intend to give ESL (English as a Second Language) lessons - I have neither the time nor patience for that! I (and hopefully other fluent speakers as well) would just be answering questions that are posted. I won't be correcting everyone or pointing out their mistakes, either - I will only give someone feedback on their writing if they ask for it. The subject of "pain vs. pains" was just an example. I found it odd that the only people who misunderstood my intentions were other fluent English speakers. The non-fluent speakers - my target audience - understood me perfectly! sm

I don't think that the phrase can be considered as polite and appropriate for offering help, Kat - just in case if you still don't understand why some people misunderstood you. You are a native English speaker and know perfectly how to speak English, right? Then please use this language with a little bit more caution in the future. We've lost a good translator because of this mistake of yours. I hope you won't let this happen again.

Can we close this thread now and use 2010 translations? If you need to post here please message me or another moderator and we'll re-open it for "2009 translations" only, ie no comments. Please all try and keep the head - stay calm, polite, adult, respect others' opinions and allow for small errors in translation.
