My fiance loved the OD so much, I showed it to him today. He's really mad he missed out on going to Worlds with me and meeting S&J. I have created an uberfan! Oh boy.

I love converting people. I want to watch a few of the dances when I awaken again but I can say the ones I remember best were V/M, P/B, K&K, D/W, C/L.. if that says anything.

You know it, Suzie! Converting people, that is. My stepmom had never seen them skate and she said she was "blown away" and thought it was highway robbery. My dad loves them. He goes on and on about how he hasn't liked skating except for Sasha and S&J since Torvill and Dean. LOL. He is the biggest T&D fan I have ever heard of.

I wish they got more recognition in their homeland. Can you come over here and do PR, the pair of you?

I find it so sad they don't get a lot of recognition at home, especially with how DOI is so popular. Why isn't actual skating?! Suzie, wanna move to Scotland? We can live with Mel or my cousins for awhile!

Well I can't speak for France, but about Italy, according to what my mother says it's just with FusarPoli/Margaglio that our nation started to get some good placement, and then the group grow up with F/S and, more recently, Anna e Luca. And with ladies and men has just been the same: we had to wait for Caro (who lives and train abroad) and Samuel (who escaped from France) to see a medal! Not to mention pairs... as I read in FSU the last worth couple lived in 1500-1600..... ;D I guess that's why at home we root for people from other countries: as Mom says, it was so miserable the fact that your country was hardly represented, that you couldn't help to choose someone from Russia, USA, Canada, Germany, France and so on, and nw it's difficult to change habits! ;D One thing is sure: now, thanks to those results, on Sport newspaper you can find few lines and sometime even a page about iceskating, you can see people skating in winter, but still this sport is considered a very "minor" one.

In the Netherlands we had no competitors for worlds this year. And you can barely find an article or anything else about figure skating.. It's just speed skating here :S

I know shows like Dancing on Ice are supposed to promote skating, but I think they have the opposite effect to be honest. I can't stand it, because it completely demeans the sport. In fact, it takes away all the credibiility of its athleticism, because it's all about the big sequin dresses, the fake smiles and so called celebrities who don't mind making a fool of themselves. People who watch the show seem to think as well that the candidates are doing a great job and could skate in competitions, which is just ridiculous. Oh, don't get me started on this one... It really annoys me if you think about how many hours competititive skaters put into it, all their dedication and sacrifices (moving to another country for example) and how little it's actually appreciated and accepted apart from a relatively small crowd. We saw how much (or rather how little) media coverage the bronze in Helsinki generated. And then you see some footballers in the paper getting completely wasted, and look at what they're earning. I like football, but look at what they're earning, just not fair in comparison. Sorry about the rant, I better shut up now..

People think figure skating is something you can learn in just a few months or so..Just for fun. Dancing On Ice just shows some show effects. Nothing about real figure skating. One of the dutch ex-candidates told in a magazine she was thinking about to compete at the olympics. She really doens't know where she's talking about and how hard the skaters have to train for that. Maybe Dancing On Ice does promote figure skating here, but it also give some people a wrong idea.

I agree too. DoI is fine if it raises the profile of real figure skating, but it doesn't really, does it? It kind of rankles that the majority of people in Britain know who T&D are - or at least have heard of them - yet S&J are the current champions of our country and got us a bronze medal at Euros, and by their own admissions they say they usually have a better reception abroad.

I don't get why if DOI is so popular they don't televise it. Granted I only saw one episode ages and ages ago. I do remember reading the article where S&J were asked about it; it made me laugh.

I totally agree. Barely a mention in the press of the Bronze medal (Rubleva's constume malfunction got more attention - I was furious)! Not even a mention that we had a team lying in third after the compulsory in those articles! I was really disappointed cos during Euros I was jumping of the walls after each section of the competition and no-one appreciated how exciting it was (never mind I have to get excited about Champions League, Six Nations and whatever else is happening in the sports the guys I work with watch - very male dominated job...) Worst thing was though that the Scottish lad I work with hadn't even heard of John and Sinead. Looked at me completely blankly!!! I had serious words with him lol!

I meant, if DOI is so popular, why they don't televise actual skating so much!
