;D prolly the same thing I'd say... Straight from the horse's mouth : "Hey Guyz, I haven't written on the site for such a long time that i thought I should put in an appearance. To be perfectly honest I don't have anything against Russia or Moscow, but having been in Moscow 3 times within the last 18 months we felt it would be nice to go somewhere else for a Grand Prix event. We are happy that Cup of Russia is in St Petersburg this year as we will be visiting a city that we have never been to and a city, which by all accounts, is a very pleasant one to visit. When we have been in Russia the audiences have always been very warm towards us and we look forward to entertaining them again in St Petersburg. Ciao 4 now guyz, John "

Good news for Sinead and John: they are going to NHK to Japan, instead of CoR

Maybe the NHK will be cancelled and CoR gets in?

Damn British Nationals for being so early! The O's are listed for Cup Of Russia atm. Did they swap them with the Kerrs or something? If the Kerrs miss Nationals because of a GP assignment clashing with it i guess they'll be sent to Euros & Worlds anyway, but maybe the O's wouldn't necessarily if they had been the ones to miss it? That's just a thought btw - and probably totally wrong!

Well, they've already qualified for the Oly's, so my guess is if they had to miss nationals, then they'd go about the rest of the season as normal...but I couldn't say for sure. That's odd, though, that they'd schedule them for NHK.

that's what I think too... I mean, that GBR apparently got a spot in Japan and they decided to fill it in with Sinead and John, because they're sure to send them to (at least) Euros, and that the O's, on the other hand, have to compete at Nats to get the 2nd spot. Well, they've already qualified for the Oly's, as I understand the whole deal, they secured a spot for a British team, it doesn't have to be them, though I'm sure that it WILL be them! (it's just that in other cases it might not be the skater/team that got the spot)

I think it would be the Kerrs or no one at the Olympics, as Great Britian have their own qualification rules for sending countries to the Olympics: i think in skating they have to place in the top half of the draw at the previous year's Worlds or they won't be sent at all, unlike other countries such as USA who can base their results on Nats right before the Olympics.

From what I've read, NISA is supporting S&J till at least Olympics 2006 and even through to 2010. They are clearly the best Britain have in terms of success internationally. I can't fathom how it can be right for them to miss defending their title. I hope something gets sorted out. I definitely would not bother going to watch Nationals if they weren't there.

That's what my concern would be. It's not like they need to go--we all know what they're capable of. But to miss defending their title for a GP event? Not sure I'd want to do that. It's awesome and all going to a GP event, but would they rather go to NHK or CoR AND Nationals? I think a lot of people might go to see them and maybe won't if they're not there. I hope things end up the way S&J want them to.

If they really won't be at Nationals i'm definitely going to Paris. I'd be so sad if i didn't see them this season. IIRC the Russian no. 1s have not always competed at Nationals, but still get sent to Euros and Worlds based on their ranking and international success. I know it's happened in a few other countries too. It will be a shame if the Kerrs have to miss Nats though, they were definitely the highlight for me last year by a long way.

They said if it comes down to choosing between Nationals and NHK, they'd rather go to NHK and get the points, and everything that goes with competing in a GP. If they can't defend their British title, it won't matter so much in the general scheme of things - they'll still be the best in Britain, top 8 in Europe, top 12 in the World..
