...and it was the most memorable standing ovation in his life... Pity that I didn't follow figure skating back then and couldn't experience those moments of his glory live...

For the record I put here a wonderful present from Stephane: his earliest skating video (at least, that I saw). He's skating his long program at the local competition: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vE6S-J_rxVUHe was a super talented kid. I guess we need to thank Mr Grutter for his great basics and his coaches for teaching how to do a skating program, not just go from elements to transitions. This is very lovely.

I didn't know where to put this, and it's definitely not new but the World Championships in Canada will start tomorrow, and on Absolute Skating facebook there is a question about our memorable performances from any of the "Canadian Worlds".. So here it is, obviously: Stéphane Free Skating, Calgary 2006 www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-mBK3uvKPAunforgettable.. it was 4.30 am here, a whole night watching the men final, and Stéphane skated last.. it's nice to watch it again now, and remember how many emotions I felt ( lol, about the commentary.. they say "WOW" so many times! ) Good luck to all the skaters in London! I think that's my best figure skating memory ever as a fan. Words could not describe how excited and happy I was that night when he won, and the way he won, after Jourbert had skated another flawless program with two quads. Strangely this is not one of the more talked about events in figure skating though. I think it was absolutely incredible that he skated two almost flawless long programs in one competition, and landing 5 quads in total. If only he could've kept up the technical level that he had back in 2006 and combined it with the mature artistry that he later grew into....he would've been truly THE skater of our life time (not that he's not one already, but you know what I mean )

La Domenica sportiva del 27 01 2008 I translate the interview in English. (I simplified when they are not speaking of stephane) from 0.07 And at this point, waiting for of our audience is over, because we are going to talk about the golden week, it would be better to say the week of silver, for the Swiss figure skating [..] who has returned to being a leader to Europeans. 12:32 Switzerland has become a leading nation at the continental level, a historic moment, a page of history that they have written, Sarah Maier and Stephane Lambiel, because it had never happened to have two medals at the same time. 00:50 [speak first with Sarah and asks impressions] 01.24 Host: But .. we talk about the king of hearts who has been Stéphane Lambiel, because the public it must be said, Thursday night has chosen you as the winner. I'm just talking about it I still have the shivers .. and you? Stéphane: It 'true that Thursday was a day ... I felt the energy of the audience, I felt the energy that I wanted to give to the public in my program. It was a very good competition here in Zagreb, with the medals of Sarah and my and I hope that next year we are going to Helsinki to win two gold. Host: They have many appointments with "Art on Ice" and a lot of work but as you will prepare the World Cup that are close, to March? Meier: Now I think at the gala, after I'll think at the World Championships ... (talk about jumps that she will have to do!) Q: You too have many shows and preparing for the World Cup, who are he skaters to beat? Asians, Americans? Lambiel: I will use the exhibitions at "Art on Ice" to prepare myself for the World Cup, I'll try to do the Quad and 3Axel during the performances. Today, for example, I tried the Quad,it was not bad but still not perfect .. I have to train, and I think I can win at Goteborg. The others are very good, Japanese, American and Canadian .. but Brian and Verner too. Q: For Sarah: Women are stronger? Asian women... Sarah: I think there will be no medal for me against the Asian Lambiel: YES (Stéphane encourages Sarah Sarah: I want to do better than last year, and not make mistakes like in this EuroChamp. In the studio from Lugano. comments: Graziella Hort: I am a perfectionist but I am satisfied. Host: Stéphane is very good .. he gives the extraordinary emotions but fails to perform well either program Graziella: As long as he has won the World Cup he seemed much more confident jumping. Now also the newly method of of judgment does not allow to make mistakes .... everything is much more elaborate .... more psychologically demanding. Host: It's nice to see so determined Lambiel because it seemed to want to leave Graziella: We have seen that has struggled, not one that leaves. Was wrong to SD but in the FP has given the best not only in technique but also in presentation. The migiore in general. 6:55 Comment about Maier.. ------------------- I hope you understand, I do not have good English

Thank you very much for your translation, littleely. Great memories, I remember the shivers I've got when I saw him performing Poeta in Zagreb, live... Sad when he mentions Helsinki, where he couldn't come after all... We have an "old videos" thread, I will copy it there too.

Thank you very much, Stephanie2006, for SUPER video of "Super10Kampf" ! Stephane has fun and is in good shape, great! In the interview the moderator asks Stephane, what he - former two times world champion - is doing today. Stephane's answer: "Today I'm doing 'Super10Kampf'" (smiles, still a bit out of breath after his 'Kalinka-dance'). "Actually I am still very active in figure skating. As figure skater we have the chance to have a second career - if we did well in our first one - and to skate in shows. It's a pleasure for me to still be on the ice every day and to work on all the triple jumps and quads, without pressure, and to be on the ice for shows. Moderator: "I realize, you're still short of breath. Was the 'Kalinka-dance' that hard?" Stephane, so lovely in dialect (he usually speaks in german and not swiss dialect) answers: "It has not been easy". He smiles … and gets big applause . He adds: "I have to say: in such a motivating athmosphere one does not want to stop … and one does not want to loose". (By the way: he was the leader of the blue team … and they won .) He is so enthusiastic also in this charity show for sport …. and he still has winner mentality ! Great, isn't it!

Yes, it was fun and reminded me of 'games without frontiers' too. It's a game, but I guess Stephane just does not like to loose and took it a BIT serious anyway . In the video-report www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMk-WZ7PPGU posted by pianomaya yesterday on TV thread (thank you!), and another, similar one, it's said that Stephane works like mad and fights … and finally beams with joy, celebrating his victory, surrounded by his fans. And that, despite his retirement three years ago, he was still fascinated by competition. Stephane says: "It's great to feel the adrenalin of competition again". Later in the video it is said that Stephane did not "suffer" any misadventure during the games (like some of his 'rivals' did). But that he was in worries ::)because some of his concurrents during the "Constructing-rail-track-game". could easily carry two of the rail-bars at a once, while he had to carry one after the other. Stephane: "It's difficult for us (his team) because we are small and do not have that strong muscles (like some others have). But we will give everything and want to win at least the polka(dance)". 2nd of pia video (thank you!): Moderator: What a fight it has been, the blue team wins the Super10Kampf this year! In interview after Stephane had come back from his run up to his supporters, the moderator asks: "Stephane, you have just been running around, it seems you and your team are still full of energy? Is it so?" Stéphane: "Each bit of energy helps, and today we have given everything. It has not been easy in the beginning. But then, with the polka, the kalinka, we just "switched" on and: 'gooooooo!' (ooooffff we weeeeent )!" (PS: he has such a sore voice, I wonder how he managed to sing in Rock Circus, I believe the day after .) Then Ursina, his partner is asked: "Ursina, having a captain pushing you forward like this, it surely helped a lot, didn't it?". Ursina: "Stephane conditioned us the whole day long to go for victory. At practices we were in trouble, but now in the end it worked out well and as you can see, we are full of joy, it was great!". The first of pia videos is what I have translated two days ago - plus the quiz in the end which is not so much of interest, I think? (P.S. I ask myself: does Stephane maybe miss competition at least a little bit? It looks as if he liked to have this kind of adrenalin once again, (when it's without too much pressure or only the one he creates himself ). I dare to say, just for once, that I will miss him at 'Olys' . VERY much).

Thank you for such a detailed translation and explanation, jomeku. Also here there is a video from the "final fight + interview", in better quality: www.srf.ch/unterhaltung/people/schweiz/trotz-koerpergroesse-stephane-lambiel-gewinnt-superzehnkampfThe competition was on Friday night and he had his show on Sunday night, so hopefully he "recovered" till then. As for the competitions, I'm sure he misses adrenaline and still has his winning spirit in him, but he said many times that he doesn't miss competitions. At least in the form they are now, he has too many complaints for the current scoring system and in general finds them boring (I don't agree with him, by the way). I watched recently an Israeli version of "Amazing race" TV reality show and I suddenly thought that it might have been really interesting to see Stephane in something like this. I'm sure he'd be perfect for such race, with his general knowledge, languages and social skills. So if they have (on Swiss TV or somewhere else) some competitions "of other type" he'd be able to take part in, this will be very interesting for me to watch. But to tell the truth I don't miss him at the competitions now. I enjoy SO MUCH what he is doing now, it's SO HEART-WARMING to see him happy, free and creative as he is now. And Vancouver experience was such a painful nightmare for me, I'm not sure I'd be willing to get through something like this again...
