I wouldn't call this program original, after all it's his fifth(!) program to jazzy music. And I didn't see any original idea behind this specific one. Also I noticed quite a lot of "flashbacks" to his other four programs. Though I don't complain, I really love jazz and really love how he interprets it. I think the main point of this program is its intricate footwork, probably with some "hidden figures" too. Overall I really loved it and hope to see it liv one day. Even though this is a jazz program, it is in the funk style which emphasizes rhythm and groove and is much less "loungey", which I think is different than the jazzy programs that Stephane has done before (Tainted love, Let the Good Times Roll, Don't Stop the music and Puttin' on the Ritz). I also see a difference in the way he moves in this program - more dancey and...funky. Also the footwork IMO is really creative. I guess "original" may not be the best description, but I would say this program is probably the most satisfying to watch for me in a while in terms of interpretation and choreography that is unique to the music.

In "Let the Good Times Roll" he was very dancey and funky. In terms of interpretation I wouldn't call Grieg or "The Water" less satisfying for me. In terms of originality "The Water" definitely wins.

"The Water" is definitely right up there for me as well. In fact, these two programs from him this season are probably my favorites from him in a while. I didn't completely get "The Water" the first time, but when I finally sat down and let myself sink in to the performance, I found it absolutely breathtaking - literally. "Let the good times roll" was great, but I feel "Say I wanna know" is more complete, mature, musically more compelling and the moves more interesting. I also love that he really dances in this program. In his other jazzy program I feel like he's more trying to "create a mood" rather than "dancing on the floor". This is one of those programs that I can watch over and over because the dancing is just so satisfying, like how I feel about Poeta and Otono...

"Let the good times roll" was great, but I feel "Say I wanna know" is more complete, mature, musically more compelling and the moves more interesting. Well, there is a four years difference between these programs. He is improving all the time, of course, the later one is more mature. It wouldn't be him if he was skating on the same level four years later. But more original? With some significantly new image or idea different from his other four previous programs? With more original and interesting moves? I really don't see where exactly. "Don't stop the music", for example, was packed with interesting and different moves which he never repeated in any other program again, this one is not. About the intricate footwork I already agreed.

"Denis Ten and Friends 2014. Rehearsals." album on AS: absoluteskating.com/photogallery/2014d10rehearsals.htmlI had more photos from rehearsals, of course (and most of them with Stephane, of course; but I couldn't make the album for AS so "unbalanced". Of course ). So I'm preparing the "full album", it will be ready shortly.

I was a bit too optimistic about "shortly". But part of the photos is ready. Rehearsal in Astana: smg.photobucket.com/user/reutush_lj/library/DenisTenAndFriends2014/rehearsals/06_01Rehearsal in Almaty, Day 1 (overall day 2 for them, but I came one day later): smg.photobucket.com/user/reutush_lj/library/DenisTenAndFriends2014/rehearsals/05_28If I have some time today, I will add some more stories about the photos in those albums. Rehearsals were very different in a mood, but I enjoyed all of them immensely. I was so privileged I could be there. And as I was the only photographer most of the time I felt really obliged to take as more photos as possible, although the light wasn't the best for my "dark" lens, so the quality is not perfect to say the least. Still the cast was so amazing and those photos could make so many fans happy, so I left in the album even not very good shots. And, of course, Stephane is the "main star" and has more photos then everyone else, because - like always - I couldn't take my eyes off him.

I didn't see any reaction to that so I didn't want to "waste time". I will write some stories today or tomorrow then.

OK, something. And more will be later when I have more time. The first rehearsal I saw was on Wednesday evening (the first show was on Thursday), unfortunately I was late and came when they just finished rehearsing with the orchestra (and probably missed Grieg...). So I was present only during the choreography and rehearsals of the group numbers. Stéphane was in a very funny mood and it was hilarious to watch. Unfortunately I didn't catch all his shenanigans on the camera, and also I forgot that my new camera can take videos... This moment was very funny, pity I didn't catch all of it. Skaters were standing in one line and had to come to one side of the rink and bow. Suddenly Stéphane fell on the ice, as if he was very, very tired and started to crawl instead of walking. Mirai tried to help him to stand. Interesting enough next day he told me that actually he was angry and in a very bad mood during the whole rehearsal. Well, probably this is how he chose to deal with it? Like always when Tania and Max are around he tried some pairs' elements. Both with Max and with Tania. Well, there is still some place for improvement. And this one was throw with Alexei Yagudin And he also tried some pairs' spiral with... Denis. But in general I should say I'm really amazed by how he always, always tries and checks new things and elements. He needs to try everything, pairs, ice dance... I respect this so much in him, that he never ever stops and uses every minute.

Thanks a lot, reut, for stories and pictures!!! It's actually so much different and pleasant to watch a number when knowing some stories behind it . So Stephane learned to deal with a bad mood in a very entertaining way . (I re-watched this from the final result: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMlpu_6FXSY )
