Thank you for posting all the Instagram photos, taipeifollowers!
Stephane's reminiscences of his first WC will be interesting, especially, as reut knows so painfully, he doesn't like looking back. Maybe now because he'll be 30 in three weeks? (I think he's been saying he's 30 since he was 27!) Or maybe his marketing manager just wants him to increase his "branding" for his skating school, choreographic career and skating appearances in the important shows? Except leading up to Art on Ice and last year for Ice Legends, he doesn't post much on social media compared to a lot of other skaters.

This reminds me about my very first talk with Stephane, when we discussed two French songs. After the talk when we were going back to the ice I asked him why he never skates to French songs. And he answered something like that people are less responsive to it, especially in German part of Switzerland, and around the world too, they prefer songs they understand. Well, a few months later he choreographed "Ne me quitte pas". At Euros 2010 I asked him what happened, because he himself said he prefers not to use French songs. And he answered, that actually... this song was Belgian. What I wanted to say is that, yes, he is not a "nostalgic" type of person, he strongly lives in present. But probably there are moments which are more special than just "a great moment from past"? And sometimes he also changes his mind? I was refreshing his Facebook for the last hour, but in vain. Unfortunately Shabbat starts pretty soon, so probably I will see tomorrow evening already what he is going to write. Can't wait. It might be very interesting. And, marketing or not, I'm sure it will be very sincere. Actually I've gathered some stuff too, I planned to post it on Tuesday on lambielnews. I don't think we'll repeat each other in those, we'll see. Hope you'll enjoy this journey down the memory lane. And I can't express how sorry I am that I joined too late and couldn't share that crazy happiness with him and all his fans ten years ago...

Stephane has posted the first two of his 2005 WC memories on his FB page. The first concerned his drawing for the next day's qualifying round and the second is a video from Swiss tv with highlights of his thrilling performance in the QR. I'm looking forward to the rest of his trip down memory lane! I'm also interested to see what reut has found for lambielnews forum!
And Tonya has posted another Instagram from their vacation in Mexico.

Thank you, taipeifollowers, tisha and reut! This video from 2005-03-14 brings back so good memories. It talks about "This young Valaisan with this enormous charisma, who seems to sink into the world he interprets. He has been fourth at Worlds 2004 in Dortmund, fourth also at the Europeans in Turin this year. Now time should be ripe for a medal. To get there, Stephane has changed everything in the last six weeks before the Worlds. His motto obviously: top or flop." Stephane in the ice rink Are six weeks short or long? For him rather short. New music, new choreography, new costume. Nothing is left from the old program. Stephane Lambiel as King Arthur. Can a medal-worthy program be ready in such a short time? Stephane: "I need the risk. I need it, without it, I would not do figure skating. I always want to do new things. Something difficult. Now, with King Arthur I found something very special. I have so much power inside me … it's got to come out now!" Stephane and Mr Grütter As Mr Grütter knows, world-class skaters need skills and character. Stephane's character can make him loose sleep sometimes. Stephane, whom he knows for eleven years, has set himself high standards. If things do not work out the way he wants, it's not crazy but a necessity for him to take drastic measures. Take the secure way and use the successful FS program from last year again? Mr Grütter: "I didn't recommend him. Because I knew for certain he would have refused. He never wants to warm up things." Flashback The Europeans in Turin six weeks ago. It did not work out in an optimal way. It couldn't. Knee surgery last September, convalescence, lack of training. Physically he was not ready, but he made important experience with the new judging system. Steps and spins were upvalued. But creativity remains possible only within narrow barriers. Too tight ones for somebody like him. Mr Grütter: "We had to make concessions. It's a pity in my opinion, but we had to insert things into his beautiful spins that do not necessarily make them nicer - in any case not more spectacular - only to get some more Points. Kiss&Cry (after FS 'Truman Show' in Turin). Boos. The answer to his judgement. What had happened? The triple axel had been judged as double, he lacked important points. Stephane watched and rewatched it, and that's what he has seen: "It was perfect. I mean, my triple axel was a triple axel and not doubled as the judges had seen. But it had been quite perfect and if I do it the same way in Moscow, I will again be very satisfied". In the gym It remained unclear to many experts what the technical controllers, who check the elements on their correctness, had missed. It was not the axel alone that cost a medal. Actually a well-performed program was even more important for him than a medal. He was lacking good condition and other elements suffered from this lack, too. He has worked on it. We would like to see him again satisfied like after the Worlds last year (2004) in Dortumund. Fourth at Worlds, fourth at Europeans. Each time Stephane Lindemann took the third place. Stephane: "Yes, but third is not so important. I want to become first once, not third". (That's the part reut mentions ). In the rink He is in form (now), he has trained well, he likes his program. Sounds encouraging. Peter Grütter: "If one day all the factors will come together and the 'fairy Fortuna' joins in, if he'll perform three clean programs, I could imagine him getting the crown one day. If this will not happen, he, for me, will remain the same Stephane Lambiel as he's always been. A bit of a genius and a bit crazy. Both things are needed. Moderator A bit of genius, a bit crazy. Maybe that's what a champion is made of. This morning, Stephane Lambiel skated the Qualification. See how things went for him: (Then sequences of the QR)

Surprising Stephane got bored with 'King Arthur' so quickly. I really like the program (less his hairstyle, to be honest ) as all his other "fast" programs like "Poeta" (my favorite) and maybe "Paint it black". I also liked "Dralion" and "Traviata". Can not judge this, but well, maybe he indeed payed tribute for the quick change of programs and, as said in your article, "he could have skated with more confidence if he had felt the program better" was also true for Traviata. As we are already going back memory line (maybe because Stephane himself feels a little bit sentimental reaching his 30 years soon (as tisha said so nicely) and Stephane spending holidays in Mexico, I re-watched Stephane's Mexican program from 2002: www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_fIG3A2cWg(I guess it's you, reut, who posted it on twitter? Thank you!) Wow! Stephane even has a slapstick-talent! (At the age of about sixteen!)

That's a really funny program, and Stéphane there is so young and so super cute. So I used his vacation and "Throwback Thursday" as excuse to share that link.

She says he's her favourite, he's very good at everything (not only spins) and then she says she has given him some advice about the costume because she doesn't like the way he dress, too much simple, and this doesn't emphasize his movements and it's a shame. She also says boys have their own personalities but Stéphane has a very strong one. In the end she says she told him to keep his hair short! He was a star before becoming a star....

Thank you, kindredspirit! Concerning the 'simple' costumes, Stephane somewhere said quite the opposite (if I remember well it was in connection with his costume for 'The Water'). He said something like he prefers simple costumes because they allow to concentrate on the movement better. Well, actually his costumes were not always 'simple': take the 'zebra', for example .

Thank you for translations. Zebra is one of the most remembered costumes in figure skating. . It is hard to forget it. Not to mention multiple costumes for the program: 3 costumes for Carne Cruda, 3 for Otono Porteno.I always loved his wild imagination and that he wanted to go beyond the limits. Now, Stephane seems to prefer simpler costumes, although often with some interesting details (like Try, I loved this one) and he likes ballet inspired costumes. I a bit miss his "creative ideas" which was not always completely successful but always interesting and added to the program. And he loves black, he skated "Nessun Dorma" in black, simple shirt like Romeo, it was like regular clothes. It might be also difficult to carry and take care of all the costumes with so much travel and he does many programs.

The unforgettable zebra costume we have all loved so much! I think the speaker's point was, you're a beautiful skater, you can shine even more if you put on a more detailed and sparkling costume (like the one with the orange sleeve he had for carne cruda in 2008, for example). I don't know if this is always true. His skating is always so graceful, he really doesn't need eye-catching costumes, he shines with his own light. For sure, she must not have seen Stéphane in that red cat costume when he was, supposedly 16 years old. So cute.

Stéphane is the one who taught me to notice skating costumes and try to understand them. He always had some story behind his costume, some interesting explanation about what was behind each detail. His costumes always went with the story he wanted to tell. So sometimes they needed more "exotic" look, sometimes the music, the story, the choreo required something simple. His costumes also, as I see it, reflected his mood at that time, his wishes and aspirations. This is what he told me about his "Zebra", for example: So actually his "Zebra" in a way was about his adolescence and finding his own voice. The quote above is from my article about figure skating costumes which was inspired by him actually: absoluteskating.com/index.php?cat=articles&id=2012costumesonice3(This is funny, once I mentioned that he gave "Zebra" to Olympic museum, and he corrected me that it was NOT a gift, he just loaned it ) During some meetings and press conferences he had some stories about his other costumes. If you're interested I may find links. This is the one where he talks about "The Water", jomeku mentioned above: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEEGDQAxpXE&t=264And, kindredspirit, thank you for translation!
