Maybe you’ll agree, a single line, a short quotation or a deep thought you read, you listen to, is interesting or moves you deeply and changes the way you’ve been thinking, dreaming or living. I love the power of words. I do hope that I’m going to find some people here who understand me and who're going to share. Let’s enjoy the beauty of figurative language! digitus quintus, brilliant thread, thank you for opening it  We definitely need something to fill the remaining off-season weeks, and this is a great idea. Hopefully we can keep this going beyond the summer as well. I really like the quote you have posted, I hadn't heard it before. In fact, I have noticed that some of the quotes you've used in your signatures before have this same play on words going on. I'm not sure about the exact literary term for this when the order of words is reversed, but I like it. I am thinking of many beautiful and meaningful phrases and quotes right now, but instead of listing them all, I think it's better to just put one down first and let that have its impact. It's by Karl Lagerfeld (yes, really ) and is originally in German: "Persönlichkeit beginnt, wo der Vergleich aufhört."Translation: "Personality begins where comparison ends."

Nadin,Unfortunately there was no impact at all . But anyway I think it was worth a shot. I'm grateful that you replied otherwise I would've been sad. Incidentally I really like Lagerfeld's quote. I've never heard it before, it's so true. He needn't to fear being compared to anyone - that's really an accomplishment!

digitus quintus, thanks for the thread. I'm not good at quotes in English, but I recalled one I really like: It is the useless things that make life worth living.Stephen Fry. Sounds like a last quote which can fit for the description of "deep thought which changes the way you’ve been thinking, dreaming or living". But I truly believe that "useless", "not serious", maybe crazy things are those which change our lives. One of such "useless" things is of course being fan of some sport.

Mine is even less deep and interesting and doesn't change so much the way one has been thinking, dreaming or living, and the beauty of the language... well, what can I say?  But it makes me smile  at times when I don't feel like smiling. And that means a lot to me. Digitus quintus, what an exciting idea of yours[/color][/b]! Thank you for creating this thread and my encharmed thanks to everyone who shares with us phrases that can really do wonders! Nadin's and digitus' quotes in some way drew my thoughts again to Stephane, his new artistic achievement and the discussion here absoluteskating.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3823whether his program could be called passionate or reserved. Here's a quotation I adore to recall while reading about passion and expression: Every passion should be expressed moderately; otherwise it will look awful.

Lamur muse, I was quite conscious of not wanting to divert this thread towards skating, since this is the transitions thread. However, your quote reminded me of one that I thought of in connection with Stéphane's new programme and how it was perceived:
